About the role: VT2 Wood Machinist Workshop Supervisor We are currently recruiting for a Workshop Supervisor to work within the Rycotewood HE Wood machine Workshop based in Oxford. This role is a great way to apply your skills with woodworking machines to create a safe learning environment, while taking a step into education to work alongside our teachers in delivering furniture courses to students. You’ll work within our dedicated HE wood machine workshop, which is used by learners on our courses from level 1 or 2 apprenticeships, and our Foundation and BA (hons) programme and short courses. This is a permanent, part‑time role working 29.5 hours per week (0.8 FTE) at our City of Oxford College Campus, with the exact arrangement of those hours flexible for the right candidate. Responsibilities Apply skills with woodworking machines to create a safe learning environment. Support teachers in delivering furniture courses to students. Oversee the health and safety of the workshops and machines, including administration. Collaborate with the team to determine ordering of tools and consumables, ensuring workshops are fully stocked. Assist the class teacher with planning study programmes and support at‑risk learners’ development. Maintain wood‑specific industrial machinery and a variety of tools, upholding proactive health and safety practices. Qualifications Relevant subject area or extensive industry knowledge in woodworking, machining, or furniture making. Enthusiastic to share skills to enhance students’ capabilities. Experience in using and maintaining wood‑specific industrial machinery. Strong interpersonal skills and aptitude for collaboration. Strong time‑management skills and ability to plan and assist in study programmes. Positive attitude towards proactive health & safety and willingness to undertake required health surveillance checks.
