Neurovascular Clinical Fellow The closing date is 21 December 2025 Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellowship in Neurovascular Neurosurgery. This is a full time post based at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), which is part of University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH). The NHNN is an internationally renowned hospital for clinical practice and world‑class clinical research in neurosciences. It is also closely associated with the Institute of Neurology (ION). Together, the NHNN and ION are regarded as the premier neurosciences centre in the UK. The Victor Horsley Department of Neurosurgery provides a comprehensive elective and emergency neurosurgical service for the UCLH Trust, a large area of North Central and West London and its associated hospitals and the local community/GPs. In addition there are large numbers of National and International referrals to specialist Neurosurgical services. This post offers a unique opportunity as the successful candidate will be an integral part of the Neurovascular surgical team. The post is fixed term for 1 year which is suitable for a post‑CCT (or equivalent) neurosurgical trainee who wishes to develop their skills and gain experience of neurovascular neurosurgery in a major centre of excellence. Main duties of the job Responsibilities of the post include participation in the neurosurgery clinics, perioperative and post‑operative management of neurovascular patients and being an integral member of the neurovascular multidisciplinary team. There is an expectation that you would have dedicated time for professional supervision and development of trainee/junior doctors within the department, undertake research, publish in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national and/or international conferences. The post is an ideal stepping‑stone for an experienced trainee to gain further experience in neurovascular surgery. Person Specification Qualifications / Certification Registered Medical Practitioner Completed general medical training Full GMC Registration. NB: Non‑UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of appointment. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification MRCS(UK) full diploma or equivalent at time of appointment FRCS (SN) or equivalent Experience Evidence of experience in General Neurosurgery (at least 6 years at registrar/resident level) Evidence of some competences in the specialty as defined by the relevant curricula Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (e.g. ALERT, IMPACT certification) Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in‑patients through continuous work‑based assessments, portfolio evidence, including logbook documentation if applicable Academic Skills Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues, understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence‑based practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement participation in a teaching course Evidence of teaching experience and/or training in teaching Evidence of involvement in an audit project, a quality improvement project, formal research project or other activity Evidence of a portfolio of audit projects including where the audit loop has been closed and there is evidence of learning of the principles of change management Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance Evidence of exceptional achievement in medicine Evidence of participation in a teaching course Excellent communication skills/verbal and written Excellent organisational skills Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical and non‑clinical setting Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise junior staff Committed to research and a commitment to quality in the research process Able to work in multi‑professional teams & supervise junior medical staff consideration and care for patients and research subjects High ethical and professional standards in research, education and clinical practice Evidence of involvement in management commensurate with experience Ability to provide clinical supervision Ability to administer a teaching programme Excellent presentation and teaching skills Understanding of research methodology Knowledge Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team working and leadership supported by multi‑source feedback or other workplace‑based assessments Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS.
