Job Summary Join Our New Haemoglobinopathy Team at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of a newly established and innovative Haemoglobinopathy team at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. Following a successful bid, we have secured recurrent funding from NHS England via the Medical Technologies (MedTech) funding stream to enhance and sustain our current services. This new service aims at directly addressing the concerns raised in the No One's Listening report, tackling health inequalities and improving outcomes for patients living with haemoglobinopathies. We are recruiting into new positions including: Haemoglobinopathy Senior Nurses We are looking for experienced, motivated, and compassionate senior nurses with a strong background in haemoglobinopathies or haematology, ideally gained in acute settings such as: Emergency Departments (ED) Intensive Care Units (ITU) Renal Units Haematology Inpatient Wards or Day Care Units Successful candidates will work across multiple sites to ensure equitable access to elective and emergency red cell exchange services. Full training and supervision will be provided to support your development within this specialist service. Main duties of the job Responsible for administering specialist apheresis/complex treatment pathways/procedure. Administration of Blood products in line with Trust policy. Work in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines and act as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and work within boundaries recognising personal accountability for: Providing positive clinical leadership, working collaboratively with the senior nursing and clinical teams to promote high standards of specialist apheresis care and the effective running of the clinical service. Act as a professional role model providing direct and indirect expert apheresis clinical care that is evidence-based, and supports the professional development of others through the provision of ongoing specialist training. Assist in supporting the delivery of high quality, safe and effective apheresis care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients. Support specialist apheresis services providing specialist nursing expertise across the2 sites. Job description & responsibilities Apheresis elective and emergency Day Care procedures for haemoglobinopathy patients. Top‑up/simple transfusions. Providing apheresis emergency procedures that extend to the critical care setting across hospital sites. Support the provision of apheresis services as a skilled operator. Develop and maintain essential skills and experience that are essential to providing safe and effective apheresis care. Work towards ensuring skill set and standards of apheresis care meet statutory/accreditation requirements (e.g. Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards, Quality Accounts, NHS Litigation Authority, and MHRA). Effective pain management with patients in SCD crisis; deliver compassionate person‑centred care, treating patients, their relatives/carers with dignity and respect. Support clinical trial portfolio and standards. Patient experience. Promote and maintain effective communication with patients, relatives/carers and other staff, including the wider haemoglobinopathy team. Commitment to developing and maintaining essential nursing skills that support specialist haemoglobinopathy services. Improve the haemoglobinopathy service delivery.
