Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse

Job Summary Are you an aspiring nurse leader who is ready to take on the next challenge? Do you have experience working as a Senior Nurse and have excellent leadership and communication skills? We are looking for an experienced Sister/Charge Nurse to lead our dedicated Surgical Admissions Unit team. We have an 11 trolley assessment area with a 16 bedded ward attached. We work closely with all our associated specialties and our colleagues in Surgical SDEC to deliver effective assessment and ongoing care of emergency surgical patients. As a Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse you will work collaboratively with a great nursing team and provide strong leadership, effective team management, and staff development. You will be responsible for the delivery of clinical services on the ward, coupled with supporting quality governance, patient experience, and nursing workforce and education. You must be able to provide kind, skilled, and expert leadership to support the ward, whilst possessing the ability to innovate, motivate others, and deliver sustained improvements. Within the surgical division, as a group of Senior Nurses, we are a cohesive team who are supportive of each other. We understand the pressures that each of us face, and work together to provide outstanding care to all our patients, as well as providing strong leadership to our staff. Responsibilities Accountable for the twenty‑four hour care delivery and management of the Surgical Admissions Unit, including the supervision of staff and students Maintaining visible presence and providing a clear focus for effective clinical leadership to the team Professionally accountable and responsible for assessing skill mix and team structures and implementing changes in working practices ensuring that care processes and systems support the delivery of high quality patient care Promoting a personalised patient centred approach to care in collaboration with carers, relatives and health care professionals. Working collaboratively with PALS and patient forums to investigate and resolve patient concerns and complaints Ensuring the rights, dignity, privacy, respect and confidentiality of all our patients Holding regular ward meetings, providing the opportunity for all our staff to discuss and also to share organisational and professional information Implementing staff wellbeing standards and promoting a culture where staff feel valued and listened to About Us At the RUH we put people at the heart of what we do, working together as one team to make a difference for our patients, each other, and our community. Qualifications and Training Registered Nurse Part 1,2,12 Qualification in Teaching and Assessing in Practice e.g. ENB 998, FLAP or equivalent Trust training in Managing Conduct, Health, Sickness and Performance, Recruitment and Selection, Appraisal etc. Knowledge & Experience Significant relevant clinical and management experience at band 6 or above Demonstrable experience of effective management of staff and taking charge of ward Thorough understanding of equality and diversity and its application to managing self, staff and patients within own area Specific Skills Demonstrates compassion and caring approach to patients and relatives and ability to motivate staff to demonstrate this also Demonstrates commitment to working as part of a team and ability to build the ward team Strong organisational skills - Able to organise the workload of the ward and how it is carried out across the ward team so that it completed in the most efficient and effective way Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
