Are you passionate about helping people manage their finances while supporting vital public services? North Lincolnshire Council is looking for a dedicated Debt Management Officer to join our Local Taxation and Benefits Shared Service team. What You’ll Be Doing Deliver a high‑quality debt recovery service across North and North East Lincolnshire Support customers to maximise income and manage debt through tailored advice Attend Magistrate Court hearings and assist Court Enforcement Officers Use IT systems to manage and recover debt efficiently Contribute to service improvement initiatives and continuous learning Make recommendations in cases of hardship and support write‑off decisions Liaise with internal departments and external partners such as Citizens Advice, Department for Work and Pensions and enforcement agencies What We’re Looking For Experience in debt recovery customer service and working to deadlines Strong communication and negotiation skills Practical knowledge of Council Tax, NNDR, Benefits and Sundry Debt legislation Ability to manage sensitive and complex cases with empathy and professionalism Good standard of IT literacy (Word, Excel) and data handling awareness A team player who supports colleagues and contributes to a positive working environment Good oral and written skills with GCSEs or equivalent at Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Maths Why Join Us A friendly, supportive team who care about your health and wellbeing Agile and flexible working, including work from home; healthy work/life balance Excellent terms and conditions, including local government pension scheme Great holiday entitlement Wide range of benefit schemes Opportunities to expand your skills and contribute to service innovation with training and development opportunities The chance to make a real difference in the lives of local residents Based in Scunthorpe (Agile Working from Home Available) Please see attached job description and employee specification which you should refer to when completing your application to demonstrate you meet the essential criteria for the role.
