Chief Cardiac Physiologist Echocardiography

Job Summary Band 7 Chief Cardiac Physiologist – Echocardiography (Part‑time – 33.75 hours per week, including weekend cover). This role is based at Barts Health NHS Trust, Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital (London), with rotation to one other site in the Trust network. The position offers exposure to a variety of cardiac pathologies and the opportunity to progress into advanced specialist areas such as cardio‑oncology, cardiomyopathy and adult congenital heart disease. Main duties Perform unsupervised complex‑level echocardiographic tasks and report to BSE standards or equivalent. Assist senior staff as needed; supervise, train and support staff in their roles. Provide 7‑day NHS service by rotating between St Bartholomew’s Hospital and one other site (including weekend rotations, 45 weeks per year). Work autonomously as a senior staff member within the non‑invasive Cardiac Diagnostics department. Support senior staff with managerial tasks and contribute to service improvement. Person Specification Essential qualifications & experience BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent). Full BSE/EACVI accreditation. Experience at senior cardiac physiologist level (band 6 or higher). Hands‑on transthoracic echo experience and ability to delegate tasks. Mentorship experience for junior colleagues. Good knowledge of transthoracic echocardiography, image acquisition and reporting. Essential skills Ability to work in and contribute to a team environment. Effective verbal and written communication. Capacity to manage a heavy workload, organise and prioritise tasks, and demonstrate initiative. Ability to work well under pressure. Proficiency with Microsoft Word & Excel. Knowledge of current professional issues. Desirable Immediate Life Support qualification. Knowledge of a CRS (patient electronic system) or similar system.
