Specialist Clinical Pharmacist The closing date is 17 December 2025 We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed clinical pharmacist to join our friendly team at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital. The Royal Glamorgan Hospital is located in Llantrisant, just off the M4 allowing easy access to the vibrant capital city (Cardiff), the South Wales Coast and the beautiful landscapes of the Brecon Beacons. Main duties of the job In the Royal Glamorgan Hospital we pride ourselves in the way we support our pharmacists to develop. This role will help you gain advanced clinical knowledge and strengthen your clinical decision making skills to enable you to work with greater autonomy and responsibility. You will possess excellent communication skills, a passion for improvement and patient focused care and be able to work well as part of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will initially rotate through a range of medical clinical specialities providing a clinical pharmacy service to medicine, including cardiology, stroke, gastroenterology, respiratory & endocrinology. The Medicines Management directorate is forward thinking and innovative, having an integrated approach to Primary and Secondary Care management of medicines. The hospital site has automated pharmacy systems, comprehensive Medicines Management services and an electronic discharge system. Pharmacists led clinics are well established and Pharmacy staff are valued members of clinical multidisciplinary teams in both Primary and Secondary Care. The successful applicant will contribute to the Emergency Duty Service. Job responsibilities The post is offered to a fully qualified candidate who will be issued with the full band 7 JD, or to a candidate who meets the majority of the criteria and will attain their Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy as a condition of appointment under Annex 21. The post holder will be required to undertake up to an 18 month training/development programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain their Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy. During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows: Months 1‑6 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 7 pay scale; months 7‑18 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of Band 7 pay scale. Upon successful attainment of the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy qualification, even if sooner than the 18 month allocated time frame, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 7 as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within this Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Job Description as indicated. NOTE: There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 7, again without financial detriment. Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This does not mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. This isn't fluency, just speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
