OverviewEnglish for Academic Purposes (EAP) LecturerDepartment: Academic/Bath Spa University (BSU), University of Suffolk (UoS), Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU), Oxford Brookes University (OBU) and/or Pearson partnershipsLocation: Leeds (On-Site)Salary: £51,000Type of Contract: Full-Time, Permanent (40 hours per week)Notes: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.Our Vision: Changing lives through education.The roleWe are seeking full-time Study Skills Lecturers who will work in close collaboration with subject lecturers to develop and teach study skills within the curriculum across HE programmes from Foundation to Masters’ Level as part of BSU, UoS and OBU partnerships. This includes improving English language and numeracy, organisational and presentation skills, digital literacy and basic IT skills, reading, writing and higher order research skills. Flexibility is required to teach during weekdays, evenings and weekends.ResponsibilitiesDesigning/documenting bespoke courses, digital resources, workshop plans and individual schemes of work to develop study skills in the curriculaDelivering/evaluating teaching and identifying areas for potential improvement to enhance teaching quality, learning and student experience in accordance with the GBS Learning and Teaching strategyProviding feedback on individual and class progress in understanding academic writing and other relevant study skillsProviding tutorial consultations with students, giving constructive comments tailored to each student’s needs, explaining where work fails to meet assessment criteria and suggesting improvementsRecording details from appointments for statistical, evaluation and quality purposes and referring students to other services as appropriateEngaging with VLE and research resources to facilitate learning through online resources and activitiesContributing to GBS quality assurance systems and processesAbout YouMaster’s degree in relevant subject area (PhD desirable)Previous UK HE lecturing experience in the wider subject areaSuccessful track record of teaching adult learners from diverse backgrounds on HE programmesExperience providing individual and group study skills support in response to identified learning needsWillingness to lead a specific area of literacy development (e.g., reading, writing, critical thinking, numeracy, digital skills, research skills, project and dissertation support, peer-assisted learning)High level of digital literacy and advanced communication skillsDesirableExpertise in digital educational resources development, course design and curriculum developmentDELTA qualificationA Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent)What We Offer25 days annual leave, plus 8 public holidays1 extra day of leave per year of service, up to a maximum of 5 daysWorkplace pension schemeTuition reimbursement for career development coursesFlexible Benefits: Cycle to Work, Workplace Nursery, Tech scheme and morePerks@Work discounts platform and wellbeing centreReward and recognition programme£500 employee referral awardDiscretionary annual performance bonusGBS is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and providing a workplace free from discrimination or harassment.
