Job summary As a Bank Recovery Practitioner you will play a key role in delivering high-quality care to patients following surgery, ensuring a safe and effective post‑anaesthetic recovery. The post holder will support the Band 6 and Band 7 team in the day-to-day running of the Recovery unit and may be required to deputise in their absence when appropriate. Bank staff will also have the opportunity to work across a variety of operating theatres within the Trust once the required competencies have been achieved. A range of flexible bank shifts is available to accommodate differing availability and work‑life balance. Main duties of the job The Recovery Practitioner supports high standards of clinical excellence by assisting in the organisation of the Recovery area, delivering high‑quality nursing care, and working collaboratively with the wider team to meet patient and family needs. They are accountable for assessing, planning and evaluating care, ensuring safe discharge practices, maintaining accurate documentation, and promoting a safe environment. Job locations Northampton General Hospital Cliftonville Northampton NN1 5BD Job description – Responsibilities The role includes responsibility for the safe management of medications and contributing to continuous improvement through learning from patient experience. Effective communication is essential, including maintaining confidentiality, providing clear and compassionate information to patients and relatives, documenting care accurately, and participating in departmental discussions and change initiatives. The role involves supporting people and team development by helping ensure the efficient running of theatres, assisting with staff induction, mentoring and supervising junior staff, maintaining computer literacy, and fostering a positive learning and team culture. Professionally, the practitioner is responsible for maintaining their competence, adhering to NMC/HCPC codes, keeping up to date with policies and professional issues, engaging in ongoing development, and acting as a clinical role model for students and learners. Finally, the practitioner contributes to quality assurance by promoting evidence-based practice, participating in audits, supporting the setting and reviewing of care standards, and reporting incidents through the Trusts reporting system.
