Specialty Doctor in Community Adult Mental Health Closing date is 09 December 2025. Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust The post is a replacement for a 10 PA post. The Sedgefield Treatment and Intervention Team is based in Spennymoor and provides secondary mental health service input for all mental health conditions for the working‑age adult population. The team receives referrals mostly from GP surgeries via the central Access team and other sources such as the Crisis team, Liaison Psychiatry and wards. The team provides specialist support to patients with significant mental health difficulties such as mood disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, and adult neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD and Autism. It can obtain expert advice from Trust‑wide specialist services, including an ADHD service, the Autism Spectrum Assessment Team and the eating disorder service. The Crisis Team manages access to inpatient services. The post-holder will develop effective working relationships with members of the Crisis Team and Inpatient Team by liaising closely when patients are referred to the crisis team or when patients need an alternative to hospital beds, as well as for patients who need to be in hospital that will be managed by the inpatient team. The post-holder will join a dedicated multidisciplinary team and contribute to compassionate and evidence‑based patient care and service improvement. Our medical staffing shortage puts strain on services and the workforce; the Medical Directorate and Medical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention. Job responsibilities Please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification for further detail on this post. Please note, as this post is a fixed term, approval by the Royal College of Psychiatrists is not needed. Teaching & Training Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training. Evidence of achievement in education, research, audit and service improvement: awards, prizes, presentations and publications. Participated in continuous professional development. Evidence of annual appraisal and commitment to appraisal and revalidation. Qualifications MB BS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment. At least 4 years postgraduate experience, including at least 2 years in a core psychiatry training programme in the UK or abroad. Approved under S12 of the MHA or able to achieve within 6 months of appointment. MRCPsych or equivalent postgraduate qualification. Clinical Knowledge & Skills Good knowledge of psychiatry. Excellent clinical skills using a bio‑psycho‑social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. Research, Audit & Quality Improvement Active participation in clinical audit. Commitment to quality through knowledge of quality improvement and lean thinking methodology. Participation in research and/or service improvement.
