Pleckgate High School seek to appoint a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to provide learning support for our English and Science departments. This role is for a fixed term to 31st August 2026. Pleckgate High School is a large secondary school, part of the Education Partnership Trust, situated on the northern outskirts of Blackburn. We have 1350 students and 180 staff and offer excellent facilities to our students and the local community. Job Purpose To work under the direction of the English and Science department, to implement planning and assessment, working with whole classes, individual or small groups of pupils in order to achieve high levels of accelerated pupil progress. To work under the direction of the English and Science department to identify the need for further support with language development and provide support to small groups of pupils as needed. To support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, promoting the inclusion of all pupils by developing their communication skills, supporting and mentoring as required to manage their behaviour, developing independence and social skills and to take responsibility for monitoring/reporting on the impact of class‑based interventions. To work closely with the English and Science leads. Qualifications GCSE or Equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics at level 9-5. Experience of planning, preparing and delivering agreed work, and supporting programmes for individuals or groups of pupils. Experience of advancing pupils' learning through providing regular feedback and next steps. Experience of being responsible for the management and development of other Teaching Assistants. Experience of assessing the needs of pupils and using detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support pupils' learning.
