Job Overview This post provides specialist knowledge and skills in epilepsy and epilepsy surgery assessment. It is suitable for a neurology trainee, post-CCT neurologist with interest in epilepsy and epilepsy surgery, or a neurophysiology or neurosurgery trainee with relevant experience. Main Responsibilities Outpatient and inpatient work in epilepsy, including diagnosis, complex epilepsy management, pharmacological treatment, EEG reporting, epilepsy surgery assessment, interpretation of scalp videotelemetry and intracranial stereo‑EEG, and neuromodulation procedures such as vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). Work within the regional South West Adult Neurodevelopmental Epilepsy Service, seeing transitional and adult patients with developmental and epileptic encephalopathies and monogenic epilepsies. Contribute to on‑call neurology rotation as needed and participate in research, audit, and service improvement activities. Person Specification Clinical Audit Essential: Understanding of the principles of clinical audit. Desirable: Completion of an audit project. Research / Publications Essential: Demonstrated interest in research. Desirable: Evidence of contribution to published research. Communication and Interpersonal Skills Essential: Effective communication with patients and relatives. Good working relationship with multidisciplinary team. Desirable: Good oral and written presentation skills. Clinical Skills Essential: Competent in history taking and examination. Experience in basic life support and resuscitation. Desirable: Ability to take leadership role for emergencies. Experience Essential: Completed pre‑registration year (or equivalent). Recent experience with UK hospital systems. Minimum 2 years as SHO (or equivalent). Desirable: Special interest in neurology. Experience as SpR in neurology. Experience in epilepsy. Experience in EEG interpretation. Basic Qualification Essential: MBBS (or equivalent). Full registration with GMC. Full MRCP (or FRCS for neurosurgical trainees) or equivalent clinical experience. Evidence of training progression. Desirable: Prizes. ACLS certification. Knowledge Essential: Understanding and application of knowledge of speciality. Willingness to seek help from senior colleagues. Teaching Essential: Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. Demonstrated case presentations. Desirable: Experience in case presentation. Personal Requirements Essential: Good communication skills. Good organisational and time‑management skills. Ability to organise own learning. Ability to fulfil all duties of the post. Prepared to be flexible in working patterns. Desirable: Ability to function successfully under pressure.
