Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner The closing date is 03 December 2025. We currently have vacancies for PWP trainees to work in the Steps 2 Wellbeing Team, one in our Weymouth team and the other in our Purbeck team. This is an excellent opportunity for people with the appropriate skills to join a highly motivated and committed team. Steps 2 Wellbeing is a busy, dynamic and progressive service with a friendly and supportive team of qualified clinicians and staff in training. The role itself is both demanding and rewarding; providing psychological interventions to people with mild to moderate common mental health problems in primary care. We are looking for people with enthusiasm and passion to join our service. Good administrative, time management and communication skills are also essential. Experience of working within mental health, the NHS service or similar organisation is highly desirable. Contact: Laura Craddock laura.craddock1@nhs.net Main duties of the job You would undertake academic training, provided and accredited by University of Exeter. Time would be split between University study and on‑job training. The on‑job training would include learning about CBT‑based self‑management for clients suffering from mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression, using a stepped‑care approach. All trainees will receive intensive supervision and support in their workplace as an integral element of their training. The post is a full time position, part time applications cannot be considered due to University commitments. We will be interviewing in December 2025. Person Specification Educational / Qualifications Evidence of ability to study successfully at level 5 GCSE Maths and English Grade C or above or grade 4 and above or functional skills Training in nursing, social work, counselling or a psychological therapy Psychology or other health related undergraduate degree Skills/Experience/Knowledge Evidence of working with people who have experienced a mental health problem Demonstrates an understanding of anxiety and depression and how it may present in Primary Care Demonstrates an understanding of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and how it relates to this post Experience of working in Primary Care Services Ability to manage own caseload and time Experience of working in a service where agreed targets in place demonstrating clinical outcomes Experience of facilitating courses or groups and / or teaching experience Personal Qualities / Aptitudes Ability to work under pressure to set deadlines and to work under own initiative Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding work and the impact it can have on mental health Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems Additional Requirements High level of enthusiasm and motivation for the role Ability to use clinical supervision, self reflection and personal development positively and effectively Fluent in languages other than English Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
