Job summary As a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon with a specialist interest in Gender Surgery the post‑holder will have demonstrated expertise in undertaking primary and revision masculinising chest surgery, and be willing to grow our masculinising lower surgery programme, including the set‑up and delivery of pedicled and free‑flap phalloplasty. The post holder must be committed to research and innovation in the field of gender surgery. The role will require close working with other colleagues in the Trust as well as allied organisations as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to quality improvement, research and management of the service. It is anticipated that the post‑holder will engage in specific management tasks and contribute to service meetings as required. Main duties of the job Deliver outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures and theatre lists to support the service. Attendance at MDT meetings. Participation in audit, research and governance activities of the department. Ensure compliance with national commissioning standards and waiting time targets. Support subspecialisation in the department by appropriate cross referral to colleagues. Provide consultant care at an early stage to patients presenting to secondary care with presumed plastic surgical complications of gender surgery. Contribute to the routine care of GAS inpatients, rotating this responsibility with colleagues. Promote early and safe discharge of patients, including day case chest surgery. Person Specification Education and qualifications (Essential) On GMC register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice. Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR). FRCS (Plast) or equivalent experience. Education and qualifications (Desirable) Higher research degree (MD or PhD). Teaching Qualification. Training in Management. Experience (Essential) Large volume experience in primary and revision masculinising chest surgery. Evidence of broad based training in general plastic and reconstructive surgery and free flap surgery, including microsurgery. Interest in assisting the set‑up and delivery of masculinising lower (phalloplasty) services. Clinical and educational supervision experience. Equality and diversity training. Experience (Desirable) Experience of setting up and delivering microsurgical plastic services. Experience of developing patient centred healthcare, especially for individuals with increased vulnerability and/or complexity. Experience of working with colleagues, including commissioners at a regional or national level to help develop services or the specialty itself. Experience of leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues. Skills and knowledge (Essential) Extensive knowledge and skills in gender surgery. Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council. Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements. Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training. Knowledge of the needs of LGBTQI+ service users.
