Consultant Urologist (with a special interest in GAS) The closing date is 15 December 2025 As a Consultant Urologist with a specialist interest in Gender‑Affirmation Surgery (GAS), the post‑holder will have demonstrated expertise in undertaking primary and revision feminising genitourinary surgery, and be willing to grow our masculinising lower surgery programme, including the set‑up and delivery of pedicled and free‑flap phalloplasty. The post holder must be committed to research and innovation in the field of gender surgery. The role will require close working with other colleagues in the Trust as well as allied organisations as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to quality improvement, research and management of the service. It is anticipated that the post‑holder will engage in specific management tasks and contribute to service meetings as required. Main duties of the job Deliver outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures and theatre lists to support the service Attendance at MDT meetings Participation in audit, research and governance activities of the department Ensure compliance with national commissioning standards and waiting time targets Support subspecialisation in the department by appropriate cross‑referral to colleagues Provide consultant care at an early stage to patients presenting to secondary care with presumed urological complications of gender surgery Contribute to the routine care of GAS inpatients, rotating this responsibility with colleagues Promote early and safe discharge of patients Strong commitment to the organisation and delivery of training About us Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of England's top‑performing and safest trusts. Person Specification Education and qualifications On GMC register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date if Advisory Appointments Committee (AAC)). FRCS (Urol) or equivalent experience Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register via one of the following: a. Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview); b. Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) Higher research degree (MD or PhD) Teaching Qualification Training in Management Experience Large volume experience in primary and revision feminising genital surgery Evidence of broad based training in general urology and female pelvic urology Interest in assisting the set‑up and delivery of masculinising lower (phalloplasty) services Clinical and educational supervision experience Equality and diversity training Experience of setting up and evaluating new surgical services Experience of developing patient centred healthcare, especially for individuals with increased vulnerability and /or complexity Experience of working with colleagues, including commissioners at a regional or national level to help develop services or the specialty itself Experience of leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues Skills and knowledge Extensive knowledge and skills in gender surgery Good understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training Knowledge of the needs of LGBTQI+ service users Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
