Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Specialist The closing date is 23 December 2025 We have an exciting opportunity for an Clinical Specialist to join our mental health team at HMP Northumberland, Category B men's prison. HMP Northumberland has an operational capacity of 1300 people who spend their sentences learning the skills they need to find work on release as part of the government's drive to cut reoffending. Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust manage the mental health services on site. Your clinical expertise and extensive knowledge will support the delivery of Mental Health provision and develop pathways, quality care and clinical governance structures. You will have extensive experience of working within a prison or wider forensic services. You will have a positive and compassionate focused attitude towards service users within the prison environment. You will have an awareness of the clinical difficulties that arise for individuals within secure environments and be able to lead by example. The post requires the highest standards of professional practice, and exceptional communication and relationship skills. Main duties of the job We are looking for an experienced practitioner who will thrive amongst the multi-disciplinary team of professionals to assess, plan and provide patient care. You will work within a team of Registered Mental Health and Learning Disability Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Primary Care Mental Health Practitioners as well as wider partner agencies including primary care services, social care and prison colleagues. Person Specification Qualifications/Experience Registration with relevant professional body. (e.g. NMC, GMC, HCPC, Social Work-England) For nursing professions - Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor or currently in progress of achieving. Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing Clinical Supervision or in the process of achieving For other professions - evidence of training in clinical supervision of other staff and able to demonstrate competence in this area of practice in clinical supervision of other staff and/or students/ trainees. All professions Postgraduate diploma in a subject relevant to the area Or be willing to work towards and achieve within 2 years and Within the first year of being in post hold a recognised advanced clinical qualification or Masters level credits e.g., Intermediate Systemic Family Therapy/Post Grad diploma in CBT/British Isles Dialectical Behaviour Therapy /NMP e.g. dysphagia, posture, autism assessment, rebound, social prescribing, sensory processing, Approved Mental Health Professional, Practice Educator (level 3 Independent Prescriber) * Note any other advanced qualification/masters credits not listed here as an example, must be clearly evidenced and listed as "advanced qualification or masters credits" - within the individuals application form Experienceand Knowledge Equivalent clinical experience to that of a Post Grad Diploma/master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD Substantial clinical experience of working in relevant specialist area in collaboration with service users, families and relevant others or transferable experience of similar settings and willing to gain knowledge within first 12 months Experience of assessing and managing risk (harm to self, others and safeguarding) Substantial experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team Involvement in quality improvement activities Knowledge Extensive knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally Experience of application of relevant legislation (i.e., Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act) in practice.
