Payments and Consumer Credit Lawyer Capital One is excited to have a new opportunity for an experienced solicitor to join our UK Legal Team, to lead on supporting the business across payments, consumer credit and open banking. About This Role This role sits within our Legal Customer Acquisition, Strategy and Operations Team, supporting our UK business to navigate risk, deliver on strategy and provide good customer outcomes. At a time of rapid innovation, knowledge of the industry and ability to adapt quickly to external or internal change will be essential. Responsibilities Advise stakeholders across the business on legal and regulatory requirements impacting a consumer credit business, particularly in relation to payments, open banking and consumer duty Build strong partnerships across our Operations, Lending and Customer Engagement teams to understand business strategy and support them, navigating risks and opportunities arising from the external legal and regulatory environment Partner with internal teams to undertake horizon scanning in areas of specialism, and document legal requirements, providing training where necessary Manage a small team of lawyers that are SMEs in various aspects of a consumer credit business, including lending, customers in financial difficulty and complaints Instruct and manage input from outside counsel where needed Own your own development and support the development of others within the business through feedback, coaching and mentoring Qualifications Qualified solicitor with experience working within, or with an established financial services firm that offers consumer credit products Detailed knowledge and experience navigating payments and open banking related legal and regulatory requirements Experience advising on consumer duty issues Experience interacting with UK regulators, particularly FCA (preferred) In‑house experience (preferred, not essential) People management experience Strategic thinking and strong problem‑solving skills Excellent workload management skills, ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and flexibility to adapt to changing business needs Strong written and verbal communication skills, tailoring content and style to the audience Proven track record of delivery with a results focus Great relationship building and team‑working across supplier and sourcing managers and broader legal and functional teams Forward thinking about maximising digital opportunities for legal advice and contract drafting Genuine focus on delivering a best‑in‑class legal service to our business Location & Working Arrangements Permanent position based in our Nottingham or London office Hybrid working model: office 3 days a week (Tues‑Thurs) and home 2 days a week (Mon & Fri) Flexible working arrangements available Benefits High‑performers strong and diverse career progression opportunities, including training programmes through Capital One University Immediate access to core benefits: pension scheme, bonus, generous holiday entitlement, private medical insurance Flexible benefits: season‑ticket loans, cycle‑to‑work scheme, enhanced parental leave Open‑plan workspaces with accessible facilities; Nottingham head‑office features a fully‑serviced gym, subsidised restaurant, mindfulness and music rooms; London office includes rooftop running track and espresso at Workshop Coffee café Diversity & Inclusion We are committed to creating a level playing field and seek to create teams that are representative of our customers and the communities we serve.
