The Opportunity Avantor is looking for an experienced and lab‑savvy Research Technician to join our team based in Cambridge, UK. The Lab is responsible for three key areas: laboratory management, operation of Biomass Bioassay Development Mammalian Tissue Culture Suite, and maintaining team compliance. This role is a full‑time temporary (18 months FTC) position based in a brand‑new facility at the customer site – The Discovery Centre, Bio‑Medical Campus in Cambridge. Team You will join a close‑knit team of 4 scientists who are part of the Bioassay Development Group. The team’s main responsibility is assay development for sample testing, as well as maintenance of laboratories – managing supplies, maintaining equipment, managing tissue‑culture suite, cell stocks, inventories, and providing cultured cells for assays. You will belong to the business department Lab and Production Services, supporting large pharmaceutical companies and laboratories worldwide in R&D within the life‑sciences industry. What we’re looking for Education: A Bachelor's degree in a life‑science discipline, or equivalent experience of at least 1 year in a hands‑on laboratory role. Experience: Theoretical and practical knowledge of mammalian cell culturing. Previous working experience in a life‑science laboratory environment. Knowledge and understanding of Good Laboratory Standards (GLS). Basic IT skills (including Microsoft Word/Excel). Good time‑management skills, ability to flex and handle multiple responsibilities and tasks on a regular basis. Excellent organisation, prioritising and planning skills. How you will thrive and create an impact Develop biochemical and cell‑based potency assays based on drug mode of action and carry out routine sample testing. Maintain mammalian cell line cultures and frozen stocks. Review and prepare data from conducted experiments. Discuss experimental findings at internal and cross‑functional meetings and coordinate with other groups across the business. Plan future experiments based on customer deadlines and needs.
