Clinical Nurse Educator for Children and Young People Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust The closing date is 16 December 2025 We are seeking a highly motivated, committed, and passionate individual to take up the post of Clinical Nurse Educator within the Children and Young Peoples Division. You must have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with students and newly qualified nurses, supporting the wider team in ensuring they are knowledgeable in the learning needs of new staff and students. Candidate should also possess qualifications to demonstrate they are working at this level and have at least 2 years experience as a band 6. As part of the Educational Team you will act as a role model and leader to nursing staff and have a responsibility for facilitation and implementation of the Trust's educational programmes, working with all levels of clinical staff and ensuring ongoing communication with internal and external links. Main duties of the job The post holder will use innovative and creative teaching and training skills to focus on developing clinical skills and ensuring competency and evidence based practice is embedded within Children and Young people clinical areas. This currently encompasses any area where Children and Young people presents, which include Children and Young people orthopaedic ward, private patients unit and outpatient departments. As part of the Educational Team you will act as a role model and leader to nursing staff and have a responsibility for facilitation and implementation of the Trust's educational programmes, working with all levels of clinical staff and ensuring ongoing communication with internal and external links. Job responsibilities Practice according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. Assess care needs for patients, planning, implementing and evaluating care for individual patients in conjunction with the need of learners. Facilitate the delivery of holistic nursing care using an individualised approach. Facilitate the delivery of high standards of nursing care. To be aware of risk situations and liaise with appropriate personnel. Demonstrate awareness and act upon government initiatives in conjunction with the Ward Managers. To be competent in using incident reporting as per hospital policy. To be competent with all moving and handling techniques as per hospital policy. To have in depth knowledge of orthopaedic and spinal surgery. To be competent performing and providing training for all nursing clinical procedures carried out on Children and Young people. Discuss with patients/ carers and relatives any problems or changes relating to planned care and treatment within the role of Clinical Educator. Participates and facilitates in the promotion of patient education and health promotion in conjunction with staff and learners. To be able to competently administer intravenous medications. Person Specification Qualifications Registered Nurse in Children Degree or evidence of working toward Orthopaedics registration course Management Qualification APLS Teaching qualification Experience 4 Years post registration experience, 2 years experience in speciality Staff management and supervision experience IT literate Audit and research Experience within HDU/ICU Skills and Abilities Proven to be clinically excellent in a wide variety of skills Experience teaching in a variety of settings and learning styles Able to evaluate and track improvement of metrics Competent in basic life support Able to supervise, train and teach staff and students Experience adapting to changing service needs Knowledge Awareness of the structure and organisation of the wider NHS organisation and its service developments.
