The Water Consultancy Division The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges. Our multidisciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction support and site supervision. Overview of the Role We have a strong track record in providing flood risk services to our clients. Our teams of experts have modelled, designed and delivered flood management schemes around the world, including award‑winning schemes such as the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme. We deliver Flood Risk Assessments for new developments and are industry leading in delivering nature‑based solutions for flood risk management. We work alongside dam engineers to conduct reservoir flood studies. Responsibilities Developing and checking hydraulic models using packages such as Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS and ICM to assist the design of flood alleviation schemes, deliver flood risk assessments and conduct reservoir flood studies. Conceptualise and scope hydraulic modelling approaches. Produce and check high‑quality reports for clients. Undertake and check hydrological assessments including Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2 and WINFAP. Mentor and train junior staff throughout the hydraulic modelling process, from scoping to delivery. Provide guidance in identifying opportunities and risks in programme, consenting, construction and maintenance. Develop project management skills and lead business development by engaging with clients. Candidate Specification Essential Experience delivering flood risk management studies.Experience using hydraulic modelling software.Proficiency in flood modelling software e.g. Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS or ICM.Degree level qualification in hydrology, geography, mathematics, civil engineering or a related discipline.Good communication and written skills.Well organised and able to prioritise workload with minimal supervision.Understanding of prioritising health, safety and environmental issues. Desirable Chartered with an appropriate professional body (e.g. ICE, CIWEM, IMA).Professional consultancy experience in flood modelling and flood risk management.Knowledge of using ArcGIS, QGIS and Python.
