Managing Marine Consultant - Water/Sediment Quality Specialist (Mid-Senior Level)Join ERM as a Managing Marine Consultant focusing on water and sediment quality. You will deliver high‑quality marine water/sediment quality Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and related reports for a range of clients across marine aggregates, offshore wind, oil and gas decommissioning, tidal energy, subsea cables, coastal engineering and ports/harbours developments.ResponsibilitiesPrepare desk studies, scoping reports and full EIAs, with a focus on water/sediment quality and WFD compliance.Provide specialist advice to UK and overseas operators, governments and regulators.Support proposal writing and contribute to survey design.Maintain high standards in report writing and data interpretation.Essential QualificationsBSc or MSc in a relevant technical subject.Experience across industries such as oil and gas, CCS, renewables, and aggregates.Robust scientific understanding and track record in:Delivering WFD compliance assessments for marine and freshwater waterbodies UK and EU wide.Plankton and biogeochemical cycles, including water chemistry.Water discharge advice including Offshore Chemical Notification Scheme (OCNS).Knowledge of the UK’s marine biodiversity, EUNIS marine habitat classification, and marine biodiversity legislation.Understanding of sublittoral benthic survey design and marine biota survey data.Extensive experience using standard MS Office.Awareness of European and domestic legislation concerning marine conservation.Enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.Desirable5+ years professional experience in marine consultancy or a technical marine field.Comfortable using AI for research and workflow management.Experience in petroleum exposure risk assessment and EBVs.Experience in chemical risk assessment and toxicity modelling (CHARM, Osborne‑Adams).Ecotoxicology knowledge.Project management experience, meeting budgets and timeframes.Background in chemical oceanography.GIS experience (ESRI ArcGIS or QGIS).Public speaking experience.Specialist marine sector knowledge.Understanding of Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs) and Marine Conservation Zone Risk Assessments (MCZ).Fieldwork experience in sampling, data collection and collation for environmental surveys.Why Join ERM?Flexible working arrangements and Cross Border Remote Working.25 days annual leave + public holidays, 6% employer pension contribution, promotion opportunities, annual salary review and performance‑based bonus.Private medical insurance, life assurance, income protection, EV car salary sacrifice, Cycle2Work, travel season ticket loan and volunteering support.Wellbeing programme including Calm subscription, gym discounts and gift cards.Diversity & InclusionERM is committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and empowered.
