Job Summary An exciting development opportunity has arisen at Homerton Healthcare NHS Trust for a dedicated, passionate and motivated experienced midwife to join our team as the Specialist Public Health Programmes Midwife. We are looking for a dynamic, empathetic, self‑motivated and forward‑looking midwife to provide visible clinical leadership and evidence‑based information and education on immunisations and tobacco dependence programmes, as well as other public health topics during the perinatal period for women / birthing people and their families, other members of the maternity, nursing teams, and other health professionals; in line with Trust policies, the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards, the NMC Code and current national / local public health guidance. We will work in partnership with service users, the multi‑disciplinary team, and local stakeholders to improve and protect health and wellbeing by further developing and embedding public health‑related pathways and guidelines, to ensure appropriate and responsive care, accurate data and understanding of the maternity population's public health status. The post holder will commence the role from April 2026. Key Responsibilities Expert resource in supporting women / birthing people and their families to make informed decisions about various public health topics and care offers in pregnancy. Ensure maternity public health programmes are delivered in a culturally competent way and adapt delivery in response to local community needs. Use appropriate language solutions to discuss public health pathways, such as vaccination offers, with women and birthing people and their families in a meaningful way. Provide oversight and management for the success of project plans and ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are met as defined by the commissioning body. Develop and provide education and training on various public health programmes, such as pregnancy immunisations, raised BMI in pregnancy, neonatal BCG eligibility and referral pathways to all relevant professional groups. Monitor and report uptake data as required. Qualifications & Experience Essential Registered midwife with active registration. Completed preceptorship. Experience in all areas of midwifery, particularly antenatal care. Audit experience. Experienced in discussing public health topics and dispelling misinformation. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate at all levels within the multidisciplinary team. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Ability to understand, reflect back and articulate other's opposing views, and challenge misinformation in a psychologically safe way. Ability to make independent decisions and work autonomously. Developed IT skills with good understanding of Windows applications and EPR. Effective presentation skills. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to promote the service. Ability to act as a role model to junior staff. Understanding and demonstration of the Trust Values. Commitment and adherence to equality, diversity and inclusion. Understanding of NMC Codes of Practice, confidentiality issues, and key public health agenda for maternity care. Knowledge of relevant national targets and guidelines, and evidence of managerial / leadership skills. Good working knowledge of immunisation issues, including relevant research. Desirable Mentorship / SSSA certification. Managerial / Leadership qualifications. Public Health qualifications. Motivational interviewing training. Up to date e‑Learning for providing vaccinations to pregnant women. Counselling skills. Reporting skills, including managing and analysing data relating to Key Performance Indicators or other targets. Motivational interviewing skills. Experienced vaccinator.
