Purpose and impact Katharine House Hospice is a registered charity with an 8‑beded In‑Patient unit, a Therapies and Wellbeing Unit with outpatient services, a Hospice at Home Service, and a Lymphoedema Clinic. We are looking to recruit a doctor(s) to provide day‑to‑day medical care, in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team, to patients and their carers for all clinical services. We are keen to promote palliative medicine in the wider community and are involved in undergraduate medical education to students from both Keele and Birmingham Universities and also offer educational support to resident doctors at the University Hospital of North Midlands. We have an active audit programme and new research strategy in place. Team and Reporting Reporting to the Medical Director, you will form part of a team comprising onsite doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants, volunteers, members of the multi‑disciplinary team and administrative support. All staff deliver exceptionally high quality care to patients, carers and their families. Core Responsibilities Provide day‑to‑day medical care in conjunction with the multi‑disciplinary team to patients and their carers for all clinical services within Katharine House Hospice. Admit new patients to the In‑Patient Unit jointly with nursing staff. Review patients in the Therapies and Wellbeing Unit when needed. Liaise with GPs, consultants and wider clinical MDT regarding patient care. Handle patient‑related administration such as discharge letters and referrals. Complete death certificates, cremation forms and liaise with the Coroner when required (in partnership with the Medical Examiner). Participate in undergraduate medical student teaching, junior doctor training and in‑house teaching ward rounds. Contribute to clinical governance and senior clinician project work. Take part in the weekend on‑call rota for the inpatient unit. Attend daily multi‑disciplinary team patient handover meetings. Engage in research, evaluation, audit activities and senior clinician meetings to contribute to evidence‑based practice. Support teaching and training sessions for the multi‑disciplinary team and assist medical students and doctors in training as required. Assist in the weekly whole‑hospice multi‑disciplinary team review of patients. Collaborate with other agencies to coordinate appropriate palliative care for referred patients. Participate in the annual appraisal process and complete mandatory training. Requirements and Competencies Qualifications and registration – Full GMC registration and relevant medical degree (essential). Full medical indemnity cover. Experience – Experience in general medicine (essential). Experience in palliative medicine (desirable). Skills – Good communication skills, demonstrable clinical skills in palliative medicine, ability to make clinical decisions, willingness to expand skills through personal development, computer literacy, understanding of current issues in palliative care (essential). Flexibility, positive attitude, team player, self‑starter, confident manner. Other – Consent to an enhanced DBS clearance and ability to comply with the legal and regulatory requirements. Additional Information This post requires the individual to consent to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance. Job Types: Part‑time, Fixed term contract – Contract length 12 months.
