Emergency Department Tracker Closing Date: 16 December 2025 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic individual to join the Accident and Emergency team at Manchester Royal Infirmary. The ED tracker role is a new role supporting both patients and clinical staff through their MRI experience, whether that be through the Emergency Department (ED) and Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC). The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, a good team player, organised, flexible and able to maintain attention to detail. Enjoy working in a fast‑paced environment, be adaptable and willing to take on various tasks and duties. As the Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, the successful candidate will be required to work a rotating shift pattern, including overnight shifts. You will also play an active role in the wider multidisciplinary teams that work across MRI by liaising with different teams to ensure patients progress along their pathway safely and efficiently. The overall aim of this post is to offer the highest level of care to our patients by supporting the clinicians providing the front‑line care to improve the patient experience and flow throughout the department. Main duties of the job Tracking patients from when they enter the department to when they leave by onward referral for further specialist treatment or discharge back to the care of their GP in a timely manner. You will work closely with Medical, Nursing and Managerial colleagues based in the ED and UTC department providing awareness to changes in pressure, capacity and patient flow. Person Specification Qualifications GCSE/O level, 4 equivalent standard of education ideally in Mathematics and English Good IT Literacy ECDL Experience A minimum of 2 years NHS/similar healthcare setting office experience Previous experience in a customer‑facing role, delivering a high‑quality service Previous experience of tracking patient flow in an NHS Trust Skills IT literate, with advanced keyboard skills and good ability in Excel or Word Demonstrable verbal and written communication skills Able to concentrate on complex tasks for long periods of time and deal with interruptions caused by conflicting targets, priorities, and timescales. Ability to work at a detailed level, identify errors or delays that may impact performance and escalatethe them in a timely manner Excellent planning and organisational skills Experience of data entry onto electronic systems, creating and analysing reports Must be flexible with working patterns Able to sit for long periods of time Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
