An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Medical Exposures Group (MEG) to cover for maternity leave. MEG is a multi-disciplinary team who provide advice and support to a range of organisations including government, professional bodies, hospitals and clinics on medical exposures, regulatory and radiation protection issues, and safe clinical practice in the UK. We are seeking a registered clinical scientist with experience in nuclear medicine who is interested in the wider applications of radiation protection in relation to patient safety. This is a great opportunity to provide support to nuclear medicine services across the UK. Working as a core member of the Administration of Radioactive Substances Advisory Committee (ARSAC) secretariat, you will provide specialist scientific advice and support relating to the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations (IR(ME)R) licensing process in addition to organising and preparing technical papers and scientific reports required for ARSAC meetings. MEG is based within the Radiation Assessments Department of the Radiation, Chemical, Climate and Environmental Hazards Directorate. MEG is tasked with improving patient safety in medical exposures through: Providing relevant up to date advice on safe clinical practice, radiation protection issues and regulatory matters across the UK A planned programme of work Supporting the IR(ME)R enforcing authorities in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales Secretariat to ARSAC, The post holder will provide specialist scientific advice and technical support relating to the licensing process under IR(ME)R and in the assessment of research involving the administration of radioactive substances. This advice will be provided to a wide range of healthcare professionals, government officials and administrative staff within the ARSAC Support Unit. In close association with their line manager, they will provide secretariat support to the ARSAC, writing technical papers, scientific reports and attending meetings.
