**About the Role**:
This an exciting opportunity to be involved in the delivery of high quality services to support the scientific programmes at the Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell (MLC).

**Key Responsibilities include**:

- Management of goods-in, receipts and dispatch, including support of goods-in assistant with the acceptance, receipting and onward delivery of goods, particularly during periods of annual leave
- Active participation in the risk and COSHH assessment of tasks undertaken by the laboratory services team and writing or updating of risk assessments as appropriate.
- You will be the deputy Biological Safety Officer for the site and will assist with the management and oversight of all work regulated by the Health and Safety Executive under the relevant regulations
- Provision of biosafety training, support and information to the MLC and any tenants of the MLC
- You will be the first point of contact for scientists when a laboratory emergency response is required (for example, in the case of floods or breakdowns)
- Management of the day-to-day execution of site contracts, including waste disposal, gas provision and cryogenics, as well as handling deliveries and invoicing
- Assistance with procurement of capital items through UKSBS, ensuring appropriate pre-tender engagement and product specification development

**About You**:

- Substantial experience working in a biological laboratory in a technical or research role
- You will also be computer literate in Microsoft Office programs
- An understanding of Health & Safety in the workplace, with specific reference to COSHH and risk assessment procedures is critical
- Practical experience in handling of gas cylinders and/or cryogenic materials and of the handling of hazardous chemicals is desirable
- You should hold a forklift licence or be in a position to undertake training and licensing immediately
