**Job Purpose**

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Research**
The post primarily supports recruitment to a phase 2 clinical trial of a novel drug treatment being investigated in acute stroke. It is expected that the Fellow will be involved in:

1. Supporting clinical trial related activities, including patient recruitment, supervision of imaging and all patient hospital attendances
2. with necessary training, processing brain imaging data from all participating sites in the trial
3. Management of local data handling (brain imaging, clinical data).
4. Preparation of relevant progress reports, including safety reporting, and contribution to papers for publication in appropriate peer reviewed journals.
5. Presentation of the work at internal and external seminars and conferences.

**Teaching**
Support for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching activities within the School may be required, but will not form a major component of the post.

**Administrative Duties**
The Fellow will support all necessary administrative activities associated with the study. This will include maintaining documentation to GCP standard, preparation of summaries and progress reports for the study sponsor and regulatory authorities, and making relevant presentations of study material.

**Clinical Duties**
The Fellow will be responsible for clinical supervision of local participants in the study. The Fellow will be expected to participate in the acute stroke on-call rota at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. Opportunities for additional clinical work may arise within the clinical department and may be undertaken provided that these do not compromise the running of the study

C1. Completed core medical training or currently in a relevant clinical training program.
C2. Full registration with General Medical Council & Licence to Practise.

**Experience**

**Essential**:

E1. At least 2 years clinical experience in medicine (or related specialties), following completion of FY2 or equivalent.

**Desirable**:

F1. Experience in Clinical Neurology, Stroke Medicine, Acute Medicine or Medicine for the Elderly
F2. Evidence of publication or experience in writing.
F3. Previous involvement in clinical trials including courses relevant to trials.
Special Aptitudes and Ability

**Essential**:

E2. Self-motivation and the ability to work independently.
E3. Good organisational and IT skills.
E4. Ability to manage research projects.
E5. Ability to work towards Sectional and Divisional objectives.

**Desirable**:

F1. Excellent communication skills (patients, clinical trial co-ordinators, research staff, line manager).
F2. Evidence of distinction in career to date e.g. prizes, awards, bursaries.

**Interpersonal Skills**

**Essential**:

G1. Strong interpersonal skills, ability to get on well with colleagues but also strong ambitions in the field.

Postgraduate students undertaking higher degrees are required to participate in the Research Training Programme in generic and transferable skills coordinated by the Graduate School. **Performance and Development Review**

**Terms and Conditions**
The salary will be on the Clinical Academic scale £43,504 - £64,461 per annum. The post carries an additional entitlement depending on “on call” responsibilities. This is paid under a separate arrangement with the NHS for which the University acts as paymaster only.
The funding for this post is until 31 July 2026 in the first instance. The successful applicant (if aged under 60) will be eligible to join the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits. All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
