This is a fixed-term post for 12 months.

Post: OVARIAN CLINICAL TRIALS fellow in oncologyBase: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

This Ovarian Cancer Research Fellowship has been developed to provide training in clinical trials and support research activities at Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWOSCC).

The post will involve assessment and management of outpatients attending specialist ovarian cancer and clinical research unit clinics at BWOSCC. It will also involve input into care of ward patients and presentation of patients at the regional MDT. The candidate will be expected to become fully familiar with the management of ovarian cancer. Furthermore, we would expect the post holder to contribute to the incorporation of new data from published clinical trials into the existing clinical management guidelines.

Critically, the candidate will be required to become familiar with all proposed and current clinical trials available for patients with Ovarian cancers. They will have the opportunity to participate in study set up activities. They will identify potential patients seen at clinic or MDT for clinical trials at WOSCC. They will be named as a sub-investigator for clinical trials which will involve consenting, recruiting and assessing clinical trial patients.

The post holder will be expected to undertake a minimum of one substantial research project with a view to achieving at least one publication.

Candidates must hold a registrable medical degree and have a minimum of 3 years post-registration general professional training (at least 12 months of which should include acute medical receiving). Candidates must have passed all parts of MRCP (UK/I). It is not an essential requirement to have passed Paces at interview, but is essential in order to take up the post. Oncology experience is desirable though not essential.

This post holds educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean. If appointed as a Clinical Fellow, this post will not be recognised for Training.
