The Oakdale Group provides a wide range of specialist assessments, including for autism, ADHD, and developmental trauma. Oakdale also provides a wide range of psychological therapies for children, young people, and adults. Many of our services are commissioned by the NHS, Local Authorities, and schools and include services for NHS staff. Others are accessed by members of the public who pay for them privately, through medical insurance, or through our charitable arm.

The role

The Head of Clinical Governance is responsible for leading and overseeing the improvement and monitoring of a comprehensive clinical governance framework. This framework should align with the 7 pillars of clinical governance: education and training, clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, colleague management, client and public involvement, risk management, and information management. The clinical governance framework should provide a structured approach for accountability and transparency so that the organisation can continuously improve its services and achieve agreed standards of care. By focusing on user safety, clinical quality, and risk management, such a framework is designed to help create a culture of learning and continuous improvement. The purpose of this role is to support the organisation in attaining agreed standards of quality, safety, and effectiveness while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement a clinical governance strategy aligned with Oakdale’s goals and objectives.
  2. Provide advice and guidance to the Clinical Director and other appropriate colleagues on clinical governance matters.
  3. Collaborate with teams across the organisation to support the integration of clinical governance and best practice in risk management.
  4. Establish a clinical governance framework incorporating clinical audit, risk management, education and training, and information management.
  5. Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines to reflect best practices in clinical governance.
  6. Lead patient safety incident investigations and develop a robust risk management system.
  7. Implement effective information management practices to ensure accurate logging, reporting, and resolution tracking of clinical incidents, complaints, and outcomes.
  8. Support the evaluation of the clinical governance framework through clinical audit and data analysis to assess clinical effectiveness.
  9. Use evidence from clinical audits to identify areas for improvement and support line managers in taking corrective action.
  10. Maintain logs of incidents, complaints, and patient and public involvement data to provide a complete view of governance performance.
  11. Support line managers in implementing quality improvement initiatives based on the findings of clinical audits and patient feedback.
  12. Support a culture of continuous education and training so that managers can support colleagues in maintaining and improving quality standards.
  13. Share clinical effectiveness data and evidence-based practices with managers to support them in improving care quality and outcomes.

About you

Qualifications and Experience:

Professional Qualifications:

  1. An experienced healthcare professional with current professional registration.
  2. Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  3. A qualification in clinical governance, quality improvement, or a related field (desirable).

Experience:

  1. A track record in leading and implementing clinical governance frameworks in a healthcare setting.
  2. Experience in coordinating risk management processes and risk reporting.
  3. Experience and understanding of Information Governance (Data Protection) and incident management.
  4. Experience in taking information from several sources in analysing and providing evidence (including briefing papers) to support governance matters, assurance, and compliance and detailing recommendations to senior leaders to support improvement and development.
  5. Experience in developing and writing appropriate governance policies and procedures.

  3. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  4. A wish to assist in driving quality improvement and client safety.
  5. Knowledge of healthcare regulations and best practices.

Additional Information:

This is a senior role with responsibility for supporting the management of clinical risk and safety within the organisation and providing the Senior Management team and Board with information on the clinical governance and audit program within Oakdale.

Hours: 37.5

Salary: £55,000 to £60,000
