Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Lightcast Discovery Full time

Our mission is to push the boundaries of complex cell analysis. Using the Lightcast platform we are working with major pharmaceutical companies, leading academic institutes, and innovative biotechnology leaders. Together, using our next generation microfluidic platform, we are making advances towards new science, unique clinical approaches, new therapies, and innovative products.

The Lightcast platform allows precise, highly flexible, and massively parallel control of tens to hundreds of thousands of picolitre volume microdroplets using beams of light and powerful software logic. By sequentially combining droplets containing different cells, antibodies, cancer drugs, reporters and/or other reagents, we can perform complex workflows and assays at scale with a flexibility far beyond what is currently possible on any cell analysis platform.

About the role

We are looking for a Software Delivery Manager to join our growing software and integration team to ensure that the software we produce in-house is developed and delivered to the highest technical standard, quality and timeliness. The role offers the opportunity to manage a highly skilled team of software developers, and work with multiple technologies, whilst liaising with colleagues in a rich cross-functional environment. The technology is broad in its scope, and includes precision hardware control, Machine-Learning/AI, complex algorithm and image analysis and a rich set of visualisation techniques of detailed scientific data.

The Software Delivery Manager will manage a well-motivated and highly technical development team who create in-house software under an Agile process, based on a roadmap of requirements and priorities, with a vital part of the role being helping maintain, prioritise and schedule the backlog and delivery of regular software releases.

Your responsibilities will include
  1. Supporting and organising the product backlog, work priority, and release schedule to ensure software is delivered on-time and to agreed performance and functionality.
  2. Line management of the software development team of around twelve software developers working on both Embedded and Desktop software.
  3. Working closely with the test team to ensure releases are made to the highest quality standards, and that the software itself is fully testable.
  4. Evolving and maintaining the software development processes, ensuring they are fit for purpose for use both within the development team and the wider company.
  5. Enabling, empowering and unblocking the development team to ensure they can work to their best ability.
We would expect you to have:
  1. Minimum 5 years' experience of leading Agile software delivery teams, ideally in heavily cross-functional environments.
  2. Demonstrable experience of Agile development, coupled with a strong ability to plan short/medium term releases based on the priority of needs and product roadmap.
  3. Line management experience of software developers at varying stages of their careers.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively within the team, as well as with other teams across mixed disciplines.
It would be advantageous for you to have:
  1. Experience of hardware/platform development and the challenges that brings.
  2. Experience of working in a fast-paced, early-phase startup company environment.

We offer a generous benefits package including:

  • 26 days holiday, plus Public Holidays.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Pension contribution matched up to 7%.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Income protection.
  • Life insurance.
  • Subsidized gym membership and weekly cross fit sessions.
  • Access to Cycle to Work and Technology schemes.
  • Enhanced family leave policies.
