About Argus
Argus is the leading independent provider of market intelligence to the global energy and commodity markets. We offer essential price assessments, news, analytics, consulting services, data science tools, and industry conferences to illuminate complex and opaque commodity markets. Headquartered in London with over 1,400 staff, Argus is an independent media organisation with 30 offices in the world's principal commodity trading hubs.
Companies, trading firms, and governments in 160 countries around the world trust Argus data to make decisions, analyse situations, manage risk, facilitate trading, and for long-term planning. Argus prices are used as trusted benchmarks around the world for pricing transportation, commodities, and energy. Founded in 1970, Argus remains a privately held UK-registered company owned by employee shareholders and global growth equity firm General Atlantic.
Argus Media is committed to ensuring career and personal growth for all its staff and provides extensive training and career development opportunities, as well as participation in employee-led initiatives, including a women's network. Our core values are Excellence, Integrity, Partnership, and Inclusivity.
Argus Consulting Services is the advisory division of Argus Media — the largest independent energy publisher in the world. We provide clients with customised analysis, research, data, and commentary services on international energy markets. Our work is firmly focused on markets — their structure, logistics, and economics. Argus Consulting Services draws on Argus' key strengths — energy markets expertise, global networks, and proprietary databases — in order to deliver real client value.
Argus Consulting has two divisions. One undertakes tailor-made commissioned assignments for a wide variety of clients and across various sectors including oil & gas, petrochemicals, fertilizers, hydrogen, biofuels, and energy transition solutions. The other division provides regular subscription services, again to a wide variety of clients and across a similar range of sectors.
The Role
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced consultant to join an established and successful team of consultants and analysts covering international crude and refined products markets. This is a senior hire with the potential to develop into a leadership role within the group. In this role, you will demonstrate excellent knowledge and understanding of international crude and refined products markets. You must be able to show extensive experience of working in a downstream environment, in either an operating or advisory capacity. It is essential that you can clearly demonstrate the capability to lead and innovate as well as having the ability to communicate effectively with clients and other stakeholders within Argus.
You will work with a small but growing team that provides regular research-based analysis and forecasts of international crude, refined products, and LPG markets. The team is responsible for the preparation and delivery of monthly products that provide clients with a forward view of supply/demand, trade, and price in the short term. The team also prepares long-term analysis of these markets and candidates must be able to demonstrate a good understanding of the issues and challenges associated with the energy transition. The role involves helping form the direction and focus of the group's work, preparing the appropriate products and material, developing the narrative underpinning the forecasts, and communicating the results to clients and others both inside and outside Argus. The candidate will also be expected to support Argus Consulting ad hoc projects as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Help drive the direction and focus of the team
- Identify new areas of analysis and associated business opportunities
- Help develop data sets and models to support the forecasting of supply, demand, capacity, imports and exports, price, production costs, and margin for crude and refined products
- Contribute text and other material to the regular reports and presentations
- Be involved in the development and commercialisation of the existing products
- Pursue the development and commercialisation of new products
What we're looking for in you?
- Experience in and knowledge of the oil industry and markets, particularly the downstream
- A proven track record in an analytical role, in another consultancy or industry player
- Strong leadership potential
- An entrepreneurial mindset
- Intellectually curious and able to demonstrate structured problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong IT skills including advanced Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to handle multiple tasks to deadline and to meet targets
- Flexible in approach, highly motivated, and eager to contribute to the growth of the team.
What's in it for you
Our rapidly growing, award-winning business offers a dynamic environment for talented, entrepreneurial professionals to achieve results and grow their careers. Argus recognises and rewards successful performance and as an Investor in People, we promote professional development and retain a high-performing team committed to building our success.
- Competitive salary and company bonus scheme

- Flexible working environment
- 25 days holiday with annual increase up to 30 days
- Subsidised gym membership
- Season ticket travel loans
- Cycle to work scheme
- Extensive internal and external training
