Join The Team as Head of Scenic

Are you a master of the workshop with a passion for bringing the magic of live events to life? Do you thrive in a dynamic workshop environment where creativity and precision intersect? If so, we want you on the team

This is a full service Event Production Company that offers the whole production package, covering everything from AV to Bespoke Scenic installs.

As Head of Scenic, you will be the driving force behind the most ambitious projects, working with a talented team from concept to completion. You'll have a multi-skilled workshop team, including an Assistant Head of Scenic and Workshop Manager reporting into you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the entire scenic department, encompassing design, construction, and on-site installation teams.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor team members within the scenic department.
  • Cultivate a culture of creativity, innovation, and excellence throughout the department.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities to expand the scenic department's reach.
  • Collaborate with clients, event planners, and other teams to ensure the seamless integration of scenic elements into events.
  • Work closely with project managers to gather set lists and coordinate with the workshop team.
  • Manage quality control processes for all scenic productions to maintain high standards.
  • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and implement effective risk management strategies across all scenic activities.
  • Contribute to the design and material selection process for custom scenic elements.
  • Oversee maintenance, service, and repair of equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Add new stock to the service inventory and keep rental software up to date.
  • Communicate regularly with the projects team and workshop manager to ensure efficient day-to-day operations and resource planning.
  • Represent the company at industry events and build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Provide support to other departments and take on additional responsibilities as required to meet business needs.

Required Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in scenic design and production, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • In-depth understanding of the corporate events sector and its specific demands.
  • Proven history of successfully delivering large-scale event productions.
  • Self-driven with the ability to lead by example and collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Advanced expertise in scenic design principles and construction techniques.
  • Proficient in CAD software and other essential design tools.
  • Solid practical knowledge of workshop tools and machinery.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong strategic planning and departmental management skills.
  • Keen attention to detail with a focus on quality control.
  • Capable of managing and prioritising multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Adaptable with a positive, customer-focused approach.
  • Knowledgeable in safety protocols and HSE regulations.
  • Familiar with sustainable and eco-conscious production methods.
  • Strong proficiency with IT systems.
  • Full UK driving license and access to personal transport.
  • Experience with CNC machines and 3D printing (desirable but not required).
