SEND Teaching Assistant

Advert We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who can support some of our children who have an EHCP and who have social, emotional and mental health needs and are working well below age related expectations, to help them excel in all areas of school life. The post is initially for 15 hours per week, working every morning between 9am and 12pm during term time. This contract is temporary until August 2026 and supported by funding which will be reviewed in March 2026. As with other roles in the school, this post involves regular contact with children and staff and therefore the successful candidate needs to be able to relate well to children and adults alike. A sense of humour is a MUST, as well as a ‘common-sense’ approach to the job and the ability to show initiative and adapt to any situation that may arise. Ideally, in applying for this post and to join an ‘Outstanding’ team you will have: Good literacy and mathematical skills Previous experience of working with children with emotional needs Previous experience of precision teaching Previous experience of working with children; awareness/experience of pre and post teaching Some experience of providing interventions to develop speech and language skills and knowledge in ‘Language through Colour’ would be beneficial High standards of work ethic and self-motivation Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills The ability to form positive relationships with children and adults High standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional standards and team work Any previous training in fizzy, sensory circuits, cued articulation; creating social stories would be advantageous Confidence to attend and contribute in review meetings with parents and outside agencies Skills to be able to create resources and develop strategies to support the child Develop a multi-sensory approach to learning Understanding of different SEND such as Autism, ADHD, ODD, ADD, Anxiety, Attachment In applying for this position, we expect all members of our school staff to continue with professional development and to seek opportunities to increase their knowledge and skill.
