Advanced Learning Support Assistant (SEND / SEMH) – Scarborough Location: Scarborough Pay: £14-£18 / Dependent on experience and qualifications Contract: Long-term, term-time (possibility of permanent) Role: Advanced LSA (Learning Support Assistant) – Primary & Secondary About the Role We are hiring on behalf of a specialist provision in the Scarborough area that supports students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs. This role will be based in a mixed-age setting, working across both primary and secondary phases. As an Advanced LSA, you will play a vital part in supporting challenging behaviour, delivering 1:1 and group interventions, and mentoring other LSAs to help build a consistent, therapeutic learning environment. Key ResponsibilitiesProvide targeted 1:1 and small-group support for students with SEMH / SEND needsWork collaboratively with teaching staff to develop and implement behaviour support plansSupport, coach, and mentor general LSAs to ensure consistent strategies across the settingUse de‑escalation techniques, emotional regulation strategies, and positive behaviour approachesAssist with structured learning activities, social skills work, and therapeutic interventionsMonitor, document, and report on students’ behaviour, academic progress, and safeguarding concernsCommunicate with teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals (therapists, social services etc.)Promote a calm, safe, and inclusive environment where all students feel supportedPerson Specification / RequirementsProven experience as an LSA, ideally in a SEMH, SEND, or challenging-behaviour provisionQualification: LSA qualification (, Level 3) or higher, or equivalent experience working with SEMH / SEND studentsStrong behaviour management skills and experience using de‑escalation techniques; training in approaches such as Team Teach or MAPA is highly desirableExcellent communication, patience, and empathy, able to build strong relationships with young people who may demonstrate challenging behavioursWillingness to obtain an enhanced DBS checkBenefits Make a real, lasting difference in the lives of young people with SEMH needsOngoing professional development, including SEMH-specific training and behaviour managementAccess to 25 accredited CPD courses (Autism, Team Teach, Trauma-Informed Practice & more)Weekly pay with referral and loyalty bonusesOpportunities across 120 schools and specialist provisionsClear career progression pathways into specialist SEN, behaviour, or mental health rolesOngoing support from a dedicated education consultantReal potential to secure a permanent position this role is temporary to permanent for the right candidateHow to Apply Please send your CV to  Use the subject line: Advanced LSA – Scarborough (SEMH) Safeguarding & Diversity Castle Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
