This role is especially suited to aspiring Clinical or Educational Psychologists and individuals passionate about supporting children with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and a wide range of additional needs. Aspiring Clinical Psychologist – Learning Support Assistant Ealing – Education and Training – Aspiring Clinical Psychologist – Learning Support Assistant Ealing You will be supporting pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), sensory needs, communication challenges, and complex developmental profiles, including those who may present with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). Many pupils may be non-verbal, require high levels of structure, and benefit from multi-sensory learning approaches. Some may also have experienced early life trauma, impacting emotional regulation, attachment, and learning readiness. Your role will be essential in helping them feel safe, understood, and supported, enabling them to make meaningful progress academically, socially, and emotionally. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to create a nurturing, predictable, and inclusive environment. You will support children in 1:1 and small-group settings, helping them develop communication, engagement, independence, and self-regulation skills. Aspiring Clinical Psychologist – Learning Support Assistant Ealing – Education and Training – Aspiring Clinical Psychologist – Learning Support Assistant Ealing Key Responsibilities Provide personalised support to pupils with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism, sensory processing needs, SEMH needs, and PDA profiles. Adapt learning activities for pupils with significant cognitive delays, non-verbal communication, and high levels of support needs. Use structured, low-demand, multi-sensory approaches to promote engagement and reduce anxiety for pupils with complex presentations. Support pupils affected by trauma by creating predictable routines and using relational, trust-building approaches. Assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and positive behaviour support strategies. Facilitate communication using visual supports, PECS, objects of reference, and other specialist tools. Encourage emotional regulation, independence, and social interaction through structured play and routine-based activities. Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and external professionals to promote holistic development. Record observations, track progress, and provide valuable feedback to staff and parents. Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment where every child is valued. What We’re Looking For A degree in Psychology or a related field (preferred but not essential). Experience supporting children or young people with Severe Learning Difficulties, Autism, sensory needs, SEMH, PDA or trauma backgrounds is highly beneficial. A genuine passion for supporting neurodivergent pupils and a commitment to inclusive education. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with empathy, patience, and consistency at the core of your practice. A proactive, reflective, and solution-focused approach. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A current enhanced DBS check (or willingness to apply for one).
