We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant in Acute & Geriatric Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.Our client is one of the largest integrated care Trusts in the country bringing together hospital and community services, serving 9,000 staff, including 1,300 doctors and 4,000 nurses and serves a diverse population of approximately 850,000 with a budget of over £640 Million. They are a Major Acute Hospital with a busy medical take and an established reputation for patients presenting with a very wide range of medical conditions with a high degree of acuity. Recognition of the vital role that is played by Acute Medicine has seen the Trust make a substantial investment in the service. This will enable the department to develop three Acute Medical Unit wards (on a phased approach) with patients remaining under the care of the acute team for their duration on the unit. In addition the team runs the award-winning Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit and the well-established Medical High Dependency Unit.The successful appointee will be joining a department of will join six acute medicine consultants, fourteen acute/specialty consultants and thirty-three specialty medical consultants who together are responsible for providing the acute and general internal medicine service. The department will ask to appointee to fulfil various duties, these include: provide clinical supervision junior doctors rotating to the department and will be the educational supervisor for up to two foundation trainees. There is also an active educational programme, and all members of the care of Older People's team will be encouraged to attend and contribute, post holder will have the opportunity to contribute to leading and developing the new services; they will have a number of general geriatric medicine inpatients under their care, supervising clinical management of general geriatric inpatients and contributing to the new Acute Care unit – overseeing the management of frail patients presenting to A and E or via the GP for same day emergency care & Regular involvement in clinical governance and service development activity, audit and teaching will be expected.Our client are based in a beautiful suburb borough on the outskirts of London with close proximity to big international airports, along with access to highly reputable public and private schools within the area.Additional Information - Will consider full time or part time - 10 P.A's - Prestigious NHS Trust - A well supported & friendly team - Must have GMC Registration this is a Consultant in Acute & Geriatric Medicine vacancy.
