This role is based in a supportive secondary school in Hackney and provides valuable experience working with students who have Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) needs, autism, behavioural challenges, and those who are school refusers—an ideal foundation for anyone interested in psychological development, risk factors, and behavioural patterns. About the Role As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, safeguarding teams, pastoral staff, and external professionals to support vulnerable students across the school. Your responsibilities will include: Providing one-to-one and small-group support for students with emotional, behavioural, and mental health needs. Supporting young people with SEMH challenges, helping them develop emotional regulation skills, self-awareness, and confidence. Working with autistic students using structured approaches, visual supports, and clear routines to help them access learning. Supporting students who are at risk of disengagement or school refusal, using relationship-building and consistent pastoral support. Assisting with behaviour plans, risk assessments, and targeted interventions tailored to students who display complex behaviours. Helping to create a safe, predictable, and trauma-aware environment for students who may have experienced adversity. Working collaboratively with the safeguarding and SEN teams to monitor progress, identify risk factors, and implement appropriate strategies.
