Lightning & Earthing Protection Specialist

Our client, based out of the Cambridgeshire area, is looking for a skilled Earthing and Lightning Protection Specialist to design, install, and maintain effective earthing and lightning protection systems for diverse Solar PV projects.
The role requires expertise in ensuring compliance with industry standards, conducting risk assessments, and delivering solutions that safeguard infrastructure, equipment, and personnel against electrical hazards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety and excellence.
You must hold a minimum of 5 year’s experience within this industry.
For the right candidate, there is the exciting opportunity for part ownership of the business within 2 years.

Hybrid working
Fieldwork and on-site inspections in various environments.
Regular travel to project locations as required.
Will require working at heights and possibly in confined spaces.
Duties:
Design and Engineering:
* Develop earthing and lightning protection system designs based on project requirements and international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, BS EN 62305).
* Conduct site surveys to assess environmental and structural factors impacting system performance.
* Prepare technical drawings, calculations, and detailed reports for system implementation.
Installation and Maintenance:
* Oversee or perform the installation of earthing and lightning protection systems, ensuring adherence to design specifications.
* Conduct regular inspections, testing, and maintenance to ensure system reliability and performance.
* Diagnose and resolve faults in existing systems.
Compliance and Risk Management:
* Ensure systems meet local and international codes, standards, and safety regulations.
* Perform lightning risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
* Liaise with regulatory authorities and third-party inspectors as required.
Project Management:
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including contractors, engineers, and clients, to ensure seamless project delivery.
* Manage budgets, timelines, and resources for earthing and lightning protection projects.
* Prepare progress reports and maintain comprehensive documentation.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.
* Certification in lightning protection or earthing systems (e.g., ATLAS accreditation) is an advantage.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in designing, installing, and maintaining earthing and lightning protection systems.
* Familiarity with relevant software tools (e.g., CAD, simulation tools).
* Experience with renewable energy projects or high-voltage systems is a plus.
* Strong knowledge of electrical systems, grounding principles, and lightning protection technologies.
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and regulations.
* Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
