Senior Asset Engineer

Brief Description We are recruiting for a Senior Asset Engineer to lead the Wales Examinations & Maintenance team for at least 18 months.
The role is being advertised a secondment while the substantive post holder moves to lead the Wales Structures Renewals team.
At completion of secondment, depending on performance and skill alignment, the secondment may be made permanent as a Senior Asset Engineer (note all Senior Asset Engineers have the same job description).

The Senior Asset Engineer role is focussed on the management of risk by leading the team that specifies and prioritises maintenance and inspection work.
In the Senior Asset Engineer role you can also expect frequent interactions with the Assessments, Assurance, Renewals and Tunnels teams.
This work supports the immediate and long-term availability of the railway and the other services we cross or are adjacent to (such as roads, utilities, coastal defences etc.
).To be successful in this role you need both the technical experienced outlined below and an ability to lead and coach the team.
During 2025, 2 further team members will join the Wales team bringing us to 6 Asset Engineers working on or supporting Exams and Maintenance.
You will have a key role in embedding new starters into the team.
This role can be based in Cardiff (St Patrick's House) or Shrewsbury (Coleham Depot).
In line with Network Rail's hybrid working policy, you will be required to be in the office 3 days a week to lead and coach the team.
This will typically be your main office, but it will also be necessary to travel to the other location and other regional offices for meetings.

Fel arfer, dyma fydd eich prif swyddfa, ond bydd hefyd angen teithio i'r lleoliad arall a swyddfeydd rhanbarthol eraill ar gyfer cyfarfodydd.About the role (External) Your Main Responsibilities will be to:1.Lead the area structures engineering input to the structures asset management process in accordance with functional policy to achieve financial and output targets.
Lead also on the development of an efficient prioritised route structures assessment programme.2.Provide structures engineering expertise to the team.3.Manage the scheduling of examination, inspection, monitoring and assessment of structures assets and the evaluation of the reports,, in accordance with functional policy, systems and standards.
Manage the implementation of mitigation measures when proposed asset management actions are deferred.
4.For sub-standard strength structures lead on the development of interim mitigations and permanent interventions.5.Lead the monitoring of trends arising from structures assessment work undertaken from asset capability, risk assessments and failure precursors.6.Manage the production of structures asset maintenance, strengthening and renewal plans and their prioritisation for inclusion in work plans.
As Sponsor oversee the development, implementation and handover of prioritised work items to realise the required outputs.
Act as Client's Representative and Designer under CDM for structures engineering renewal schemes.7.Manage the analysis, risk assessment and mitigation on sensitive assets and manage the implementation of mitigation measures required to minimise adverse impact on corporate targets.
Manage the monitoring and evaluation of asset trend data and failure precursors to inform structures asset management plans to efficiently achieve corporate objectives.
8.Manage route functional support to the specification and development of specific enhancement schemes.9.Manage the liaison with the central structures team to develop and disseminate consistent best practice and in the review and development of functional policy and standards.10.Manage the determination of mitigation actions necessary to reduce the impact of adverse weather on the performance of structures assets.11.Manage the structures asset data and information within the company systems and processes.12.Manage initiatives to develop the buildings & civils strategic direction and input to the Control Period (5-year funding cycle) bid process in the route and supporting negotiations with regulatory bodies.13.Develop and improve relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.14.Provide engineering support and participate in investigations of incidents relating to structures.15.Undertake engineering verification activities to support the delivery of the national verification programme.16.Manage the review of proposals from other disciplines or external organisations that could impact on the route structures assets and/or programmes of work to identify potential synergies or conflicts.17.Manage the support to the review and approval processes for abnormal vehicular and rail loads.18.Control the technical development of projects, certifying that renewal requirements are sufficient, correctly interpreted and any changes are agreed.
