More detail about the role We're pleased to announce this rare and exciting opportunity to join our friendly Radiotherapy Physics team as an Assistant Mechanical Technologist in our dedicated mechanical workshop.
This is an exciting time to join the team due to a recent restructuring and the development of collaborative working across the South, East and North Devon Medical Physics network (SEND Medical Physics), which includes the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.
Alongside your studies you could be working on a full range of tasks supporting radiotherapy in Exeter and then specialising in the production of bespoke test and patient specific devices, manufactured within our dedicated mechanical workshop facility.
Applicants should be numerate, computer literate and must meet the entry requirements for the college course at the Torbay College.
This currently requires a minimum 4 x GCSE's L4/C-grade including Maths, Science and English.
Alternative qualifications may be accepted, subject to the admissions process.
You will undertake a fully funded, accredited college course to bolster your mechanical engineering skills, alongside in-house training.
Upon successful completion of the 3-year training post you will be eligible for more senior roles and enter a pathway toward the professional register for clinical technologists (RCT).
There may be an opportunity to join the department permanently at the end of your training but in any case, your new-found skills as a clinical technologist will be in high demand as there is a national shortage of trained staff.

Interviews will take place at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Wonford, Exeter in the Medical Physics Department, Exeter Oncology Centre.
