Job summary We are looking to appoint a Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.The role is challenging, varied, complex and responsive to the increasingly innovative development of new medicines and their role in healthcare today.The training opportunity is an advanced apprenticeship full time fixed term contract for 2 years.
You will study to achieve the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Apprenticeship.
This qualification is approved to enable you to apply for registration to practice as Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
Training and support will be provided by work based assessors and course tutors during your training.Please check the person specification for the minimum educational requirements to be accepted onto the apprenticeship.
Main duties of the job Whilst in training the post holder will carry out pharmaceutical duties, under the direct supervision of an appropriate person in all sections of the pharmacy department, including Clinical Trials and at ward level.Some of the duties will be in the form of training exercises and competence-based assessments in conjunction with the the Level 3 Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Apprenticeship.The training is hospital based, with one day a week allocated to study.

An inpatient and outpatient dispensing service is offered at both sites along with patient medication review and stock management at ward level.
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site has an aseptic suite to compound and supply intravenous chemotherapy, nutrition and radioactive tracers for both sites.Career opportunities for Pharmacy Technicians, post registration, include; medicines management roles; manufacturing; staff training; information technology; clinical trials; and contributing to the management of a comprehensive pharmacy service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential GCSE's: Maths C, English and Science ( Grade 4-9, A-C) and 3 other subjects at a minimum of grade C (4) Desirable L2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) Skills Essential Meticulous attention to detail Well organised/able to meet deadlines Able to work as part of a team Good communication skills Experience Essential Previous experience with the public.
Basic computer skills Excel, Word and PowerPoint Desirable Previous experience of working in Clinical Trials.
Previous GCP training.
