About the Role Practice Plus Group is one of Englands largest independent providers of self-pay, insured and NHS healthcare.
Practice Plus Group Hospital Plymouth has a CQC Good rating and provides excellent healthcare to the population of Plymouth and the south west region, including Cornwall, Isles of Scilly and all of Devon.
We are an elective surgical centre providing arthroplasty surgery, orthopaedics, general surgery, endoscopy and cataract surgery.
The clinical services include Outpatients, Day Surgery Unit, Inpatient Ward, Theatres, Endoscopy suite, Radiography, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy, with care provided by a multidisciplinary team.
The Physiotherapy Department of 10 staff, provides outpatient services including pre-assessment, post-operative rehabilitation, Joint School (pre operatively), post op knee group, inpatient services which includes mobilising patients following surgery, teaching rehabilitation exercises and supporting the ward nursing team and discharge team to ensure safe discharge and ongoing care and support.
The Physiotherapy Department are also involved in the care of patients who require treatment following various hand operations that they have had in Practice Plus Group, Plymouth.
Main duties of the job What you will be doing- key tasks: To lead and run Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU) outpatient clinics under the supervision of orthopaedic consultants.
To undertake assessment and treatment of all hand patients following their surgery, liaising with the orthopaedic consultant as needed.
To partake in pre-operative assessment of patients with complex equipment needs to facilitate safe and effective discharge planning.
To provide clinical leadership and management in the absence of the Physiotherapy Manager, with support from the Deputy Heads of Department.
Further detail provided in the Job Description attached About us What we will look for in you We are looking for an experienced band 6 / band 7 physiotherapist who is keen to work as part of a wider MDT, leading a specific part of our physiotherapy service as outlined in the key tasks summary.
You will need to demonstrate advanced MSK diagnostic and treatment skills, be able to work within the MDT and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

To provide clinical leadership and management in the absence of the Physiotherapy Manager, with support from the Deputy Heads of Department.KEY TASKSThis role is primarily a patient facing role, delivering specific physiotherapy services for elective arthroplasty and orthopaedic patients.
Develop, lead and run Patient Initiated Follow Up (PIFU) clinics in outpatients department, under orthopaedic consultant supervision, as part of the Get It Right First Time (GIRFT) recommendation.
Undertake thorough assessment and treatment (including but not limited to making thermoplastic night splints) of all hand surgery patients as part of their post-surgical recovery.
Liaise with consultant on more complex cases, developing a treatment plan.
Liasise with community services for discharge planning and ongoing therapy needs for hand patients.
Partake in pre-operative assessment of patients with more complex equipment needs prior to surgery, to facilitate safe and effective discharge planning.
To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team within Outpatients, Ward and Day Surgery areas To formulate and deliver a collaborative programme of patient care which is clinically effective, evidence based and appropriate.
Ensure that all in patient records conform to statutory, professional and regulatory standards of documentation Act as a role model by actively demonstrating high standards of care delivery on a regular basis.
Continually strive to improve the patient experience within the Physiotherapy Department through participating in regular monitoring, accurate data collection and audit, initiating improvements that will enhance the patient journey.
To work collaboratively to ensure the Physiotherapy Department is consistently achieving the standards required for Good or above CQC rating, supporting the Physiotherapy Manager to complete PPG Quality self-assessment framework at least every 6 monthsTo support the Physiotherapy Manager in leading the Physiotherapy team in developing services within the department which contribute to overall service improvement.To participate in all quality and governance activity, including complaints, PSIRF, incidents, audits, risk management, patient experience and continuous improvement relating to physiotherapy services.
To contribute to the day-to-day management of the hospital, working collaboratively with colleagues to provide an appropriate level of physiotherapy service.
To contribute to providing a learning environment and encourage a culture of continuous professional development for all staff in line with service provision and need.
To ensure staff are assessed and found competent in all Clinical practices, particularly including the mentorship of new, student and junior staff in the absence of the Physiotherapy Manager, to be supported by deputy managers.
Working with the Physiotherapy Manager implement a formalised system of clinical supervision to support physiotherapy staff.
Leadership & ManagementIn the event of a long-term absence of the Physiotherapy Manager, assume the roles and responsibilities of the Manager, supported by the 2 Deputy Physiotherapy and evidence the physiotherapy department is staffed safely in accordance with PPG safe staffing requirements.
Communicate closely with the Head of Nursing & Clinical Services Manager and Clinical Governance Manager with regard to staff matters and patient problems/incidents, investigating incidents as required.
Liaise with the Head of Nursing and Clinical Services Manager on all matters concerning the department when necessary.
Promote staff motivation and morale through effective, positive communication.
Ensure that effective communication is established within the physiotherapy department by providing staff meetings on Clinical Governance days.
Act as a role model for the setting of professional standards, ensuring all staff achieve professional and PPG standards and values.
Manage the staffing and CAPEX budget for the physiotherapy department.
To ensure that comprehensive induction and training is implemented for all new staff.
To attend all meetings as required for HoDs, including monthly Daily Safety Brief, Quality Governance meetings.
HODs monthly and weekly scheduling meetings.
Assist and regularly liaise with the Clinical Governance manager in their duties.
Communicate effectively both verbally and via formal documentation with the physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team patients and their families.
Promote positive inter-departmental communication and co-operation to enable the hospital to deliver an excellent service To complete all reports and returns as directed by SMT.Policies and ProceduresEnsure that physiotherapy care is provided according to the standards set by the Company and unit specific policies and procedures.Ensure that policies and procedures are adhered to by staff when performing their duties.Orientate all new staff with regard to policies and procedures.
Review and develop, policies, procedures and protocols within the Physiotherapy environment.

Devise an annual operational and CAPEX assessment for the physiotherapy department.
Educate staff on correct use of equipment.
Ensure that faulty equipment is repaired promptly and report lost equipment.
Demonstrate staff cost management by utilizing physiotherapy staff cost effectively.
Ensure regular and timely identification of infrastructure and estates issues, working with the Operational Manager for resolution.
Human Resources - in the event of a long-term absence of Physiotherapy Manager, supported by Deputy ManagersEnsure professional development of staff members by promoting education, cultivating responsibility and accountability and by acting as a mentor and as a role model.Manage staff performance and capability.rocess timesheets monthly.
Monitor all absenteeism, ensure Fit Notes are completed and forwarded to HR in a timely fashion.
Ensure timely referral to Occupational Health as required.
Demonstrate staff time management by utilizing nursing staff, cost effectively on each shift.
Be knowledgeable of all HR policies including, Capability, Disciplinary, Flexible working etc.
