Main duties of the job The Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, have an opportunity for a Respiratory Research Physiologist to join the Respiratory Biomedical Research teams.
This teams is part of the Trust Wide Research team to help deliver commercial & NIHR portfolio studies across the Trust.

Job description Job responsibilities Working in the Trust wide team you will help to provide support to embedded research teams across the trust, for new and existing studies.
Enthusiasm, self-motivation, flexibility and drive will be required to ensure the success of this research physiologist post.
You will be involved in all aspects of the research process from study start-up to delivery and close out of a study.
Previous experience of working in a respiratory physiology department is essential as well as previous research experience.
Your role will include the performance and interpretation of basic to more complex assessments of respiratory function, such as oscillometry, multiple breath washout and cardiopulmonary exercise testing.
You will need excellent communication and project management skills and you must be able to trouble-shoot and problem-solve in order to guide and support the team.
You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, implementing studies to translate scientific discoveries into improved patient outcomes.
You will need to have an excellent level of written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent IT skills would also be advantageous.

a) The post holder will work as part of Pulmonary Function Team to provide specialist Pulmonary tests on patient/client group.
They will be expected to provide a diagnostic assessment service in Respiratory Physiology for both inpatients and To perform respiratory physiological measurements in accordance with ARTP/BTS national guidelines and To manage own workload within defined occupational policies accountable to senior management highlighting any issues/obstacles To promote and ensure the delivery of high-quality clinical research, evidence-based care/best Clinically assess patients using complex physiological measures contributing to a multi-disciplinary approach to the care of the patients in the pre-operative Together with the team, work on several ongoing research studies; screening, recruiting and organising patient research Responsible for the delivery of individual patient exercise programmes in both in-hospital and community settings, providing exercise consultations, support and monitoring of exercise Report and collate results from research studies into databases.
Present at international meetings.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential BSc in Clinical Physiology (Respiratory) or equivalent Association of Respiratory Technology and Physiology 1 and 2 (working towards) Knowledge and experience Essential Currently working in the pulmonary Function area Able to undertake complex hand-eye coordination tasks and have the dexterity to use specialist diagnostic equipment.
Able to relate information in a variety of forms to patients, relatives and carers.
Experience of leading a team Mentorship experience to include supervision of PFT trainees Experience in undertaking respiratory investigations and knowledge of abnormal results.
Competency in all routine aspects of respiratory physiology, demonstrating knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology and pathology.
Technical knowledge of all recording systems used in respiratory investigations.
