Role Summary The post holder will be required to work autonomously as well part of the immediate and larger teams participating in the assessment, diagnostic testing and management of acute cancer patients while promoting the acute oncology service.
You will give advice, instigate investigations and implement patient care as appropriate to manage the acutely unwell oncology patient.
You will provide essential communication to improve patient experience and quality of care, reducing lengths of stay and where possible averting hospital admissions.
To support the Band 7 in the planning and development of the future service in accordance with the Trust's policies and procedures utilising the most effective resources.
The Acute Oncology Service will provide specialist advice to health professionals across for patients who present with acute symptoms, related to their treatment or cancer and patients who present as an emergency with a suspected but undiagnosed cancer.

More detail about the role We are looking for a self-motivated, dynamic, enthusiastic, patient focused nurse with recent acute medicine and or cancer/oncology experience, to help us maintain the delivery of high-quality care to patients referred into acute oncology.
As AO CNS, you will act as the patient's key worker, proving psychological support, provide specialist information and be able to signpost post to local and national agencies for additional support.
You will also triage patients over the phone using the UKONS telephone triage tool and You will be an integrated member of the multidisciplinary team working across the whole patient pathway.
This will incorporate supporting the patient at the point of their diagnosis and throughout their surgical and oncological pathway.
You will be expected to work within the team as well as autonomously, prioritising and managing your caseload and time appropriately.
