Senior Highway Engineer (Development Management) Annual Salary: £42,679 to £50,211 Location: Chelmsford Job Type: Full-time, Permanent This role is crucial for ensuring that the design and construction of significant infrastructure highway projects meet the standards required for adoption as public highways.
Day-to-day of the role: Manage the implementation of highway works associated with approved Development Control Orders, ensuring compliance with obligations and policies.
Liaise directly with internal and external stakeholders, strategic partners, and other providers from detailed design to the end of the Maintenance Period.
Contribute to the development of policies, plans, procedures, and practices to deliver economic and community goals.
Ensure the delivery of the programme of works is within budget, schedule, and specified quality.
Responsible for budgetary control of specific programmes of work, ensuring value for money.
Assist in consultations with the Local Planning Authority for proposed developments.
Agree on detailed designs and ensure planning permission conditions/obligations are met.
Attend and chair meetings, responding to site and design queries promptly.
Undertake extensive stakeholder liaison.
Manage and provide technical direction for team members handling all aspects of highway services.
Required Skills & Qualifications: Degree in a related subject or equivalent experience in the field of highways and/or transportation.
Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional areas.
Membership of a professional institution such as CIHT is desirable.
Detailed knowledge of Highway Legislation, design procedures, standards, and good practice.
Expertise in the Highway Act 1980 and CDM 2015.
Demonstrable knowledge of national guidance, legislation, and regulations relating to the design and implementation of highway schemes.
Strong project management experience and proficiency with project management tools and Microsoft applications.
