Job summary The Trust is looking for a consultant adolescent psychiatrist for the Meadow Unit - Oxford CAMHS PICU.
Meadow Unit was open in August 2023 and has a robust and consistent Senior Multidisciplinary Team that have been involved with the unit since the conceptualization of its Clinical Model, based on Positive Behavioural Support.
The consultant will be the Responsible Clinician (RC) for the 8 adolescent in-patients, all of whom will be under the Mental Health Act (MHA).
Meadow Unit is part of the National Association of Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (NAPICU) and part of the CAMHS PICU Network.
With the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), the consultant will work to ensure a quick and safe admission and discharge of patients.
A prime objective of the team is to ensure quick, efficient hospital treatment of patients requiring intensive psychiatric and nursing input.
There is an emphasis up the use of evidence-based treatments, where available, and following NICE guidelines as applicable.
It is recognised that this is an area where research and audit are needed to improve and consolidate practice.
The potential candidate will be supported to develop the practice of psychiatry in the PICU setting.

This will include contribution to ward rounds (including typing contemporaneous clinical notes into the electronic patient records), CPA review and discharge planning meetings, and Mental Health Act Tribunals.
Liaison with the Community Mental Health teams (CAMHS) to ensure coordinated clinical care of patients.
- Providing timely written correspondence to relevant professionals documenting assessments, ongoing management, progress, and discharge summaries using Trust IT and clinical records system training will be provided where needed.
- Work collaboratively with other agencies, in particular liaison with staff from other teams to manage smooth and timely transfer into and out of the unit.
The teams most commonly involved with this will be the GAUs Team, Hospital at Home and Day-Patient Teams, CAMHS Crisis and OSCA, Early Intervention Psychosis (EIS) and Local Authority/Social Services Teams - Active commitment to delivering the Trusts clinical governance agenda.
Meadow Unit will lead its own governance agenda including audit, quality, patient experience, learning from incidents, patient safety initiatives and interrogation of data.
The senior leadership team comprising of Consultant, matron, clinical psychologist and ward manager will link with CAMHS management both in identifying areas of concern and feeding back actions, as well as area of excellence.
- Contribution to developing and delivering improved clinical services as outlined in the National Service Framework for Mental Health and in the CAMHS Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit Service Specifications.
- The post holder will be expected to contribute to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies.
This includes the timely recording of clinical activity data, and participation in clinical audit with appropriate administrative support.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential MB BS or equivalent medical qualification Desirable Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
MRCPsych Additional clinical qualifications.
Eligibility Essential Fully registered with the GMC Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
