Our children and young people have Epilepsy, Autism and complex learning difficulties, along with communication difficulties.As well as our Medical centre, Therapy teams, wellbeing departments, Diagnostic services and a Research department, our campus includes a Special Needs School and College, 10 Residential houses as well as a working farm.This is certainly not your average Nursing role
Main duties of the job We have an opportunity for experienced Band 7 Nurse to join our small, supportive team.
Our team is led and managed by an Epilepsy nurse consultant, with a team of 6 nurses, 3 Healthcare assistants, a Pharmacy advisor and assistant and our health administrator.
The students we support have a variety of complex health care needs, so our Teaching and Residential teams need the backup and support of an experienced and varied Nursing Team.You will have responsibility for working directly with the nurse consultant and undertake and lead on key activities including assessments and placements meetings, assist in managing the team, providing, supervision and appraisal process.
support the day to day planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised nursing care.
You will also work autonomously within the team as a Senior Nurse, ensuring that a holistic approach to the health care needs of the students is maintained.You will find this job teaches you an enormous amount, not just professionally but also on a personal level.
The students will teach you about the value of life and the infinite variety of people in this world.
You will also have the opportunity to learn from experts on Epilepsy and other relevant subjects which will count towards your Continuing Professional Development.

Daily oversight of the Nurses and HCAs.
Responsibility for staff rotas.
Contributing to ensuring compliance with the relevant CQC standards.
To include supporting with clinical governance and ensuring NMC requirements are met, in relation to registered health activities.
To include updating procedures as required.
Ensuring an evidence based approach to epilepsy and external healthcare provision at Young Epilepsy.
Monitoring practice, to identify any shortfalls through local and national audit processes and develop strategies to address them.
Contributing to research, practice and development and practice evaluation.
Attendance of Admissions and Placement meetings to provide Health input concerning applications from potential Students.
Attendance of additional regular organisational meetings such as Behaviour Support, Business Development and Clinical meetingsKeyTasks and ResponsibilitiesManagerial / Leadership Responsible for leading and supporting the nursing team in the absence of the Head of Health.
Identify and address the training needs of the team.
To include ensuring all mandatory training is up to date.
Undertake appraisals for the Nursing Team Support the recruitment process for the Nursing Team.
Act as a mentor and role model to student nurses and newly appointed staff.
Supporting and delivering of the YE external health training, utilising the skills of the health teamand providing training where appropriate.
Working within the relevant agreed budget parameters.
To keep the Head of Health updated in relation to service delivery, including any concerns about staffing capacity and/or performance.
Support the implementation of health-related policies, primarily in relation to the external health offer, but also supporting the wider external health areas.
To ensure close liaison and cohesive working with the nursing team.
Ensure that systems are in place for the ordering, maintenance and logging of medical equipment and medication supplies.
Develop and implement health policies and procedures in accordance with best practice.
Liaise with parents, carers and external teams about concerns or complaints.
Be part of the senior nursing team on call out of hours service.Expert Clinical Practice.
Using specialist knowledge to oversee and deliver patient-centred care designed around the needs, concerns and experiences of patients and their families.
To be a key link and liaison with external Medical Consultants and other professionals to ensure patients are treated in accordance with their agreed treatment pathway.
Develop and implement specialised care packages , emergency protocols to ensure that these are clear and not subject to misinterpretation.
Meet with patients and their families as required to help resolve their concerns and minimise their anxieties in relation to health matters.
Responsible when on duty for clinical decision making including when to transfer a student to hospital either as an emergency or less acutely.Clinical Leadership Supporting effective communication between the external health team and nursing colleagues, members of the wider multidisciplinary team, both internal and external as appropriate.
Provide mentorship, coaching, supervision, and shadowing opportunities to support the development of the external health team and nursing colleagues where appropriate.
To participate in and contribute to clinical supervision on a regular basis as necessary.
Develop, implement, and review policies and procedures to meet the requirements of the NHS and our external health provision.
To ensure all health staff respect patients dignity, involve them in shared decision-making and obtain appropriate consents before undertaking clinical procedures.
Take part/lead in reflective practice, learning reviews etc to maintain and develop own competence and performance, as well as developing others.
Provide written responses to formal complaints/reports when required on health matters.Research, Audit and Service DevelopmentEnsure that health teams practice is evidence based and fulfils the requirements of their relevant professional body and/or NMC etc.
To understand the interface between excellence in care and probity of resource management.
To develop, implement and review risk assessments and action plans to minimise and manage risks.
Responsible for conducting audits on records relating to seizures, and other medically relevant areas, to ensure these are complete and accurate and can contribute to development of treatment options.External Relationships and Marketing Provide appropriate written information for students and parents about the health services provided at Young Epilepsy.
Promote patient and public involvement in the evaluation and improvement of services.
Contribute to the development of clinical protocols in accordance with valid evidence.
Ensure a patient focussed multidisciplinary approach to care in collaboration with carers, health care professionals and other agencies.Non-Clinical Provide and oversee appropriate training and teaching across other disciplines at Young Epilepsy as required.
Promote effective communication between the external health teams and other Young Epilepsy staff, and with appropriate external agencies.
Attend professional and in-service training days to ensure continuing professional development.
To work within Young Epilepsy policies and procedures and adhere to statutory policies.
