Job Description Mechanical & Process Engineering Technicians play a critical role in maintaining safe and efficient site operations by performing both reactive and routine checks and installations on systems and equipment.
For this Thames Water scheme, apprentices will specialise in mechanical utilities, focusing on the maintenance and diagnostics of mechanical systems, motors, pumps, and components, as well as basic fabrication and welding.
Duties and Responsibilities As a Utilities Engineering Technician, typical responsibilities include: Conducting inspections, condition monitoring, and reporting to ensure equipment functionality.
Performing planned, reactive, and predictive maintenance on plant and equipment.
Diagnosing and rectifying faults on a range of systems, including waste and water systems.
Complying with relevant industry health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Using workshop machinery and tools for creating, repairing, and modifying components.
Installing, maintaining, and commissioning equipment and components.
Carrying out risk assessments and following safe working practices, including isolation procedures.
Using computer systems and technical specifications to diagnose and maintain equipment.
Providing information and guidance to contractors, suppliers, and colleagues.

Typical Working Week: 40 hours per week, with start times typically between 07:00 and 08:00.
This includes 8 hours of paid college time.
Person Specification A proactive and motivated individual who takes pride in their work.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning in a fast-paced, technical environment.
Ability to work in varying weather conditions while adhering to health and safety protocols.
High attention to detail and commitment to sustainable development practices.
Minimum Requirements: GCSEs: 3 to 5 passes (grades A-C / 4-9), including Mathematics and English or Functional Skills at Level 2 or above.
Must have a full UK drivers licence and access to a vehicle Desired Requirements: Relevant work experience and a passion for the utilities engineering sector.
A valid CSCS/ECS card is advantageous.
Key Training/College Information Apprentices will complete a Level 3 Utilities Engineering Technician Apprenticeship over approximately 48 months, depending on prior qualifications.
Training will focus on core engineering skills and specialized disciplines as required.
Apprentices without Level 2 English and Mathematics must achieve these before completion.
Eligibility: Have lived in England for the past 3 years and possess the right to work.
Be 18+ (due to site health and safety rules).
Not be enrolled in any other courses.
