Job summary An Infant Feeding Advisor who: Behaves in a professional manner and ensures effective communication with colleagues, women, and their families.
Works to promote individualised care, specific to the needs of the woman and her family, acting as her advocate within the multidisciplinary team in the absence of the midwife.
Whilst working under the supervision of the designated midwife and part of a multidisciplinary team, undertakes the direct care and appropriate interventions to maximise a positive client experiences and promote the physical and mental health and wellbeing of the mother and baby.
Participates in the collection and recording of written and electronic data, in line with Trust guidelines and policies.
Works in partnership with clients and professionals both internally and external to the Trust to provide an effective network of care for the clients in their care.
Identifies and escalates deviations from normal when undertaking care.
Participates in delivering National Health objectives and initiatives.
Acts as an advocate for the department, in promoting respectful and flexible team working across areas.
Proactively, consistently, and meaningfully demonstrates the Trust values in their day to day interactions with colleagues and service users.
Works to maintain and progress the Unicef Baby Friendly Standards.
Main duties of the job To assist the Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Specialist Midwives' to meet their responsibility to lead the Princess Alexandra Hospital BFI Programme.
Under the guidance of the BFI Specialist Midwives', offer specialist advice on all aspects of Newborn infant feeding to women and health professionals.
Assist the BFI Specialist Midwife in supporting and teaching other staff to fully participate in the programme.
To work with the BFI Specialist Midwife to ensure a high quality and consistent Newborn infant feeding advice and support service is in place, taking into account the standards set by the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative and the Hospital's responsibility to meet their audit and other requirements.
To support the specialist midwife with the Tongue tie clinics.
To be able to support all birthing people when readmitted on the general side and requiring breast feeding support.
