Consultant Physician In Acute Medicine

We have been assigned by one of the UK's more prestigious NHS Trusts to help them recruit a Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months to join their successful Medicine department.
Our client is the largest healthcare organisation in Wales, with responsibility for the health of nearly 700,000 people.
The region also attracts some 8 million overnight visitors and 17 million day tourists each year.
With a budget of approximately £1.2 billion, the Health Board employs over 16,000 people and provides acute, intermediate, mental health and community services, and also oversees primary care services to the population of North Wales.
The Board also provides a number of services to the population of North Powys.
The successful appointee will join a department of six acute medicine consultants, fourteen acute/specialty consultants, and thirty-three specialty medical consultants who together are responsible for providing the acute and general internal medicine service.
The department will ask the appointee to fulfil various duties, including: Providing a clinical service, with colleagues, which includes the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness.
Coordinating the emergency medical assessment service.
Assessing & treating acutely ill medical patients, including identifying and "pulling through" patients from the A&E department.
Supervising the on-call junior medical team.
Working closely with the A&E team to develop joint working practices to improve the emergency patient experience.
Working with consultant physician colleagues to develop alternatives to hospital admission such as ambulatory care, hot clinics, and specialty urgent care pathways.
Participating in the out of hours service delivery of acute medical take during weekdays and weekends on a rota basis.
Undertaking about 3 subspecialty sessions, which will be agreed with the individual appointee and regularly reviewed in job plan meetings.
Acting as Educational and Clinical Supervisor for junior medical staff, overseeing their training and being the initial source of advice for doctors regarding their careers.
Participating in the LHB's risk management process and in clinical audit and other healthcare governance activities within the department.
Our client is based in a very desirable part of Wales in a unique blend of rural and urban living, with beautiful Welsh countryside and a dramatic natural coastline, as well as a variety of theatres and live music venues with transport and motorway links to big cities such as Bristol.
